The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pyles at 6:00 p.m.

MINUTES
The Minutes from the September 16, 2024 Park and Recreation Citizen Advisory Committee meeting
were submitted for approval. A motion to approve as submitted was made by Elizabeth Davis and
Seconded by Sue Pyles. A voice vote was taken with unanimous affirmative result and the motion
passed.
AGENDA ITEMS
A. Lori Stringer and Eileen Grassling presented on an upcoming seminar Ballwin Grows
Native. Presentations by Wild Ones, Shaw Nature Preserve, Missouri Botanical Garden,
Audubon’s Bring Conservation Home will be given during the 3 our hour event held at
The Pointe on February 23, 2025.
B. Recreation Specialist Laura Laurie reported to the committee on past and future special
events held at the Event Center. City Administrator Eric Sterman reported that the
bathrooms will soon be remodeled to boost utilization of the space. Laura finally
reported that the event center is booked every Saturday and Sunday through June.

C. Park and Recreation Director Chris Conway provided a summary review of 2024, Vlasis
Playground opening, The Land Water Conservation Fund Grant Application for The
Pointe Playground has been submitted, a fee increase for non resident greens fees went
into effect on January 1, 2025, Revisions were made to the ballfield reservation process
to make it more flexible for coaches. Conway finally provided a conceptual layout of
shared use roads, sidewalks and trails within Ballwin. Discussion ensued regarding
points of interest and other connection points. Conway stated he’ll share the next draft of
the map at the next meeting.
D. Parks and Recreation Director Chris Conway reported to the committee that the city may
need to consider purchasing a new indoor water play structure for the indoor pool sooner
than planned. The current structure is becoming more rusty each year. Maintenance staff
does what they can to keep the rust under control however holes are starting to form a
getting harder to repair. Conway reported that he’ll bring options for the committee to
consider at a future meeting.
E. Parks and Recreation Director Chris Conway informed the committee that staff has been
struggling with controlling the indoor pool temperature and concerns were being brought
not only to staff but also to the board of aldermen. Conway noted that the temperatures
seem to have stabilized at a comfortable temperature and that the city is working with the
original engineers and mechanical contractors to rectify the issues.
F. Alderwoman Pam Haug reported on new businesses that have opened in Ballwin
including Dunkin Donuts, Mi Lupita, Crave Cookies,
G. The committee discussed the next meeting will be held at The Pointe at Ballwin
Commons on April 21, 2025 at 6:00 PM.
ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Sue Pyles and seconded by Pat McDermott to adjourn. The motion was passed
by unanimous vote and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM
