VILLAGE OF BARNEVELD BOARD MEETING
Monday, June 6th, 2022

DRAFT SUBJECT TO APPROVAL
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President John Forbes. State of Public Notice was
given and agendas were available.
2. Roll Call: Scott Leahy, Rhonda Hazen, Don Hugill, Chris Valcheff, Mike Peterson, Brandon Watson
and John Forbes.
3. Pledge of Allegiance – Rhonda Hazen arrived at 7:01 pm
4. Announcement – anticipated closed session later in meeting
5. Motion by B Watson/S Leahy to approve the Minutes from the May 2, 2022 Meeting. Motion carried.
6. Informal Public Comment – None
7. President’s Report
8. Chelsea Olday appeared before the Village Board to discuss Adult Volleyball/Softball League at Birch
Lake after Baseball/Softball is done in July/August
9. MSA - Brian Kehrli and Rob Uphoff from MSA Professional Services gave an update on Village
Projects. Possible change order for Municipal Building and reviewed Punch List for Sullivan.
10. Public Works Report. Motion by M Peterson/C Valcheff to table retaining wall at 304 S Jones St until
the Village can work with new owner of property. Motion by B Watson/D Hugill to approve Resolution
22-09 Compliance Maintenance Annual Report for Sewer Utility. Motion by J Forbes/S Leahy to table
the Proposal from Altronex Control Systems for Deer Valley Lift Station PLC Upgrade until we get
another Quote for project. Motion by C Valcheff/R Hazen to approve Mitch Danz, Scott Bomkamp and
Will Hodgson have Key Box code for key box at Birch Lake. All motions carried.
11. Motion by C Valcheff/S Leahy to approve Resolution 22-09 for Improvements for the USH 18-151
Corridor for Limited Access. Motion carried.
12. Police Chief Report. Call response for May: Citations/Warnings-5 and Service-45.
13. Motion by M Peterson/C Valcheff to approve Liquor License for Barneveld American Legion, Deer
Valley Lodge, Kwik Trip, Golden Eagle Bar & Grill and Ope Haus Pub & Grill. Motion carried
14. Motion by C Valcheff/R Hazen to approve all Operator’s License with the following exceptions-Derek
Rikli’s pending Learn to Serve Certification and Brittany Zander coming to the July Village Board
Meeting. Motion carried
15. Motion by S Leahy/M Peterson to approve Cigarette License for Kwik trip and Golden Eagle Bar &
Grill. Motion carried
16. Motion by R Hazen/D Hugill to appoint Police Chief Jeremy Oyen as representative for the Iowa
County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update. Motion carried
17. Committee-Commission Reports – Plan Commission approve addition to Little Buffaloes
18. Motion by B Watson/C Valcheff to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried
19. Motion by B Watson/R Hazen to go into Closed Session at 8:03 p.m.: per State Statute 19.85(1)(c)
“Considering employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data on any public
employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. Employee
Review. Roll Call: S Leahy, R Hazen, D Hugill, C Valcheff, M Peterson, B Watson & J Forbes. Motion
to reconvene at 9:03 p.m. to Open Session. Roll Call: S Leahy, R Hazen, D Hugill, C Valcheff, M
Peterson, B Watson & J Forbes
20. Future Agenda Items – The Village Board would like to thank the Barneveld Advancement, Will
Hodgson and the Trades Class for the new concession stand at Birch Lake. The Finance Committee
will meet on June 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.
21. Motion by R Hazen/B Watson to adjourn at 9:14 p.m. Motion carried.
