MINUTES OF CITY OF BASTROP PARKS AND PUBLIC TREE ADVISORY BOARD
August 6, 2020
The Bastrop Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board met in a Regular Meeting on August 6, 2020, at 6: 00
p. m. via remote GoToMeeting. Members present were President Jimmy Crouch, Betty Rucker, Kelly
Dawson, Barbara Wolanski, Jamie Creacy, Margaret Robinson and Liaison Councilman Dock Jackson. Staff
present were David Junek, Curtis Hancock and Terry Moore.
CALL TO ORDER
At 6:00 p. m. Chairperson Jimmy Crouch called the meeting to order with a quorum being present.
2. STAFF AND BOARD BRIEFINGS
2A. Parks and Recreation Report
Presentation was made by Parks Superintendent David Junek. No handouts were given as the
meeting was handled via computer. Trapping mosquitoes, approval for bids for sidewalks, and a
possibility for bike lanes was discussed.
2B. Bastrop State Park Report
Parks Board Member Jamie Creacy, Parks Superintendent, gave a presentation. The park is fully
staffed. There is reduced camping due to virus. The golf course project for adding native grasses
and wildflowers is moving smoothly. Bids are due today for the dam project. The swimming pool is
successful this summer.
2C. Bastrop YMCA Report
Staff member Terry Moore gave presentation. Wellness center is open six days a week. Group
classes are still in session. They have been handing out boxes of fresh produce to the public since
June. This will run through August. Terry asked the opinion of the parks board for recommendations
of how to get kids back into programs and still maintain social distancing guidelines. Membership
numbers are down currently. There will be no fall sports. A possible science program and soccer
was discussed for the kids. David Junek suggested Bob Bryant park for this use. Council member
Dock Jackson suggested this be brought to the attention of council and mayor.
2D. Bird City Coalition Report
David Junek gave report. The mural that was brought about by Dorothy Skarnulus will start soon
and will be on the unpainted side of the restroom building at Fisherman' s.
2E. Youth Member Report
No report was given at this time. City staff will be reaching out to the high school soon for a youth
member replacement.
3. CITIZEN COMMENTS
There were no citizens who signed up to speak.
4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
4A.
Consider action to approve Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board minutes from the July 2,
2020 regular meeting.
Motion was made by Board Member Betty Rucker and seconded by Board Member Barbara
Wolanski. Vote was unanimous.
S. ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION

5A.
Discussion and consider action on a recommendation by the Parks Board pertaining to the
potential relocation of Bastrop Bark Park.
Curtis Hancock suggested three parks as options. They are Bob Bryant, Mayfest and Minerva Delgado.
The decision was to keep as is for now until further notice. This was pulled from the agenda.
5B.
Discussion and consider action on requested improvements on the Bastrop River Company
leased space at Fisherman' s Park.
It was discussed to put a concrete slab under the trailer to help preserve the ground. Bastrop River
Company will be responsible for the expense of this. A motion was made by Barbara Wolanski and
was seconded by Betty Rucker. Vote was unanimous.
It was also discussed that a memorial for Dorothy Skarnulus will be added to the September meeting' s
agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
Board Member Betty Rucker made motion to adjourn the meeting at 7: 00 p. m. and carried without
objection
