MINUTES OF CITY OF BASTROP PARKS AND PUBLIC TREE ADVISORY BOARD September 3, 2020 The Bastrop Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board met in a Regular Meeting on September 3, 2020, at 6: 00 p. m. via remote GoToMeeting. Members present were President Jimmy Crouch, Kelly Dawson, Barbara Wolanski, Jamie Creacy, Margaret Robinson, Kerry Fossler and Liaison Councilman Dock Jackson. Staff present were David Junek, Curtis Hancock and Trey Job. CALL TO ORDER At 6: 00 p. m. Chairperson Jimmy Crouch called the meeting to order with a quorum being present. 2. STAFF AND BOARD BRIEFINGS 2A Parks and Recreation Report Presentation was made by Parks Superintendent David Junek. No handouts were given as the meeting was handled via computer. New trails at Fisherman' s Park are fifty percent done. Picnic tables have been newly stained. The project of connecting parks, including Jewell Hodges Park, Minerva Delgado Park and Fisherman' s Park was discussed. 2B. Bastrop State Park Report Parks Board Member Jamie Creacy, Parks Superintendent, gave a presentation The park is currently still reservation only for day use. The capacity for camping is still fifty percent. There is discussion of the park being named as a destination place. There has been eighteen million dollars awarded to the park for restoration. 2C. Bastrop YMCA Report There was no report given as Terry Moore was not present. 2D. Bird City Coalition Report David Junek gave report. The coalition is working to keep Bastrop' s Bird City alive. The project report will be updated to continue the designation. 2E. Youth Member Report No report was given at this time. City staff will be reaching out to the high school soon for a youth member replacement. CITIZEN COMMENTS An email was read by David Junek from Bastrop resident Bryan Floyd. Mr. Floyd requested there be more areas with shade to play pickleball. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 4A. Consider action to approve Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board minutes from the August 6, 2020 regular meeting. Motion was made by Board Member Barbara Wolanski and seconded by Board Member Kelly Dawson. Vote was unanimous. ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION 5A. Discussion on ways the city of Bastrop can honor former board member Dorothy Skarnulis' contributions. Bastrop Parks Board and Public Tree Advisory Board Minutes March 5, 2020 Curtis Hancock suggested a tree be planted at City Hall. David Junek suggested naming a new trail at the subdivision Pecan Park after Dorothy. Dock Jackson suggested something by the mural at Fisherman' s Park with Dorothy' s name. Barbara Wolanski made the motion for the naming of the trail and Kerry Fossler seconded. The vote was unanimous. All three recommendations will be sent to the City Manager. 5B. Discussion and consider action of determining if a parks board member is willing to sit on the Bird City Coalition. Kerry Fossler is currently a lead member of the coalition. Barbara Wolanski is currently active as well. 5C. Discuss and consider recommendation to City Council pertaining to the wheeled sports plaza. Report was given by Trey Job. Barbara Wolanski made the motion to continue the current plan and move forward with the construction Kelly Dawson seconded. The vote was unanimous. 6. ADJOURNMENT Board Member Barbara Wolanski made motion to adjourn the meeting at 7: 00 p.m and carried without objection.
