Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board Meeting

MINUTES OF CITY OF BASTROP PARKS AND PUBLIC TREE ADVISORY BOARD October 1, 2020 The Bastrop Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board met in a Regular Meeting on Thursday, October 1st, 2020, at 6: 00 p. m. via remote GoToMeeting. Members present were President Jimmy Crouch, Barbara Wolanski, Betty Rucker, Margaret Robinson, Terry Moore, Kerry Fossler and Liaison Councilman Dock Jackson. Kelly Dawson was absent. Staff present were David Junek and Curtis Hancock. 1. CALL TO ORDER At 6: 04 p. m. Chairperson Jimmy Crouch called the meeting to order. 2. STAFF, BOARD, AND COMMITTEE MONTHLY OPERATIONAL REPORTS 2A. Parks and Recreation Report Report was given by Parks Superintendent David Junek, covering Wheeled Sports Plaza update, and Sidewalk Connectivity update ( impacted residents have been notified with door hangers and individual meetings with concerned residents will be scheduled in October with Curtis Hancock.) The schedule for cleaning the bathrooms at Fisherman' s Park is Monday and Friday. 2B. Bastrop State Park Report Report was given by Parks Board Member and Parks Superintendent Jamie Creacy. The parks are in the busiest season of the year. All weekends are fully booked for the entire Fall season. They will be planting native grasses on the golf course as part of the restoration and will be doing prescribed fire prep. September 1512020 starts fiscal year and projects. This year' s projects: 1) Native grass restoration 2) Trail portion of the golf course ( demo' ing course paths) 3) Dam maintenance ( dam bids have closed) 4) Purple Trail ( longest 8 mile loop) 5) Mechanical/ Chemical treatments 6) Houston Toad Research 7) Archeological Surveys 2C. Bastrop YMCA Report Report was given by Terry Moore. All gym, group exercises and fitness are open. Kickball is new. YMCA is hosting a drive- through Halloween Bash at Mayfest Park on October 31 from 5- 7pm. The annual Health Fair will be second weekend of January 2021. 2D. Bird City Coalition Report Report was given by Kerry Fossler. Bastrop Bird Walk is Saturday, October 17, 2020. 22 Backyard Birds of Bastrop" are painted in Downtown Bastrop storefronts. Bingo cards will be given out for participants to win a prize if they find all 22 birds. The Lost Pines Master Naturalists will teach a free community outreach class on " Creating Hummingbird Habitat" at the Downtown Community Gardens during the Bird Walk, also as part of TXPWD' s Texas Pollinator BioBlitz 2020. Birds will be up all month — stroll Downtown at your leisure. Future murals were discussed, along with the annual report due in January 2021 to keep our Bird City Designation. 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 4A. Consider action to approve Parks and Public Tree Advisory Board minutes from the October 1, 2020 regular meeting. Motion was made by Board Member Barbara Wolanski ( with change from Polanski to Wolanski) and seconded by Board Member Kerry Fossler. Vote was unanimous. 5. ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION 5A. Discussion and consider action on adding more pickleball courts to the tennis court at Fisherman' s Park. Report was given by Curtis Hancock. Temporary lines have been added on the tennis courts at Fisherman' s Park to accommodate 4 pickleball courts ( 2 courts per side.) This makes 11 pickleball courts in total at Fisherman' s Park. Barbara Wolanski made the motion to approve permanent markings. Betty Rucker seconded. The vote was unanimous. 5B. Discussion and consider action on researching the history of the City of Bastrop park names. Report was given by Curtis Hancock, suggesting the Parks Board research the meaning and history of each city park so we can highlight a park per month in 2021, and compile a Parks Map to be given to the Visitor Center and Visit Bastrop to distribute to visitors. Park assignments are as follows: Bob Bryant Park — Barbara Wolanski Fireman' s Park — Margaret Robinson Fisherman' s Park - Barbara Wolanski, Betty Rucker & Dock Jackson Jewell Hodges Park — Dock Jackson Mayfest Park — Betty Rucker Minerva Delgado Park — Kerry Fossler ( we need a sign for Delgado park) Board Member Barbara Wolanski made the motion to approve Board Member presentations at the December 2020 regular meeting. Betty Rucker seconded. The vote was unanimous. ADJOURNMENT Board Member Betty Rucker made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 7: 14pm. Board Member Margaret Robinson seconded.
