Roll Call for Board Members: John Sims, LE Johnson, Peter Pontoni
Staff Members Present: Jason Francisco, Code Compliance Manager; Yolanda Johnson, Code
Compliance Officer; Jerrod Lepper, Code Compliance Officer; Angela Sulak, Secretary
Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: None
Approval of Minutes: Mr. Johnson made a motion to approve the June 15, 2022 minutes, second by
Mr. Pontoni. Approved.
Dangerous Buildings Show Cause Hearings: None
New Business:
1. 263 LaVista Blvd S (House)
Issue #EN22-07033
Compliance Officer: Jerrod Lepper
Homeowner, Kathy Karaba, present. Mrs. Johnson
stated that the appeal was the result of a property
survey. There were exterior violations of peeling paint
on the garage. Ms. Karaba stated that the garage
needs more than paint, as the wood is rotten and
needs replaced. She made contact with
Neighborhoods Inc and received no response. Mr.
Sims asked Ms. Karaba how much time she needed
to make the repairs Ms. Karaba asked for at least 30
days, as she wants the work done correctly and is
unable to do it herself. Mr. Francisco stated that the
compliance date is July 29, and that a 30 day
extension would put her into the next meeting. Mr.
Sims stated that her extension would be granted until
September 20, 2022. Mr. Johnson motioned for a 60
day extension, second by Mr. Pontoni. 60 days
extension granted.
2. 183 West St (Apartment)

Propety Owner Representative, Jodi Sager, present.
Mr. Lepper stated the appeal was the result of a rental
complaint, finding interior violations of leaking. Ms.
Sager stated they are obtaining bids to do a complete
rehab of the property. A bid from Kalamazoo Building
Restoriation, expected Tuesday, would allow for
partial repair on the specific area of the complaint in
the interim. Ms. Sager would like more time as the
bids have not been received. Mr. Lepper would like to
allow more time for a more comprehensive repair.
Mr. Pontoni motioned for a 60 day extension, second
by Mr. Johnson. 60 day extension granted.
3. 161 Redner (House)
Issue #EN22-00609
Compliance Officer: Yolanda Johnson
Homeowner, Ingrid Hoadley, present. Mrs. Johnson
stated there were exterior violations found during a
rental renewal inspection. Ms. Hoadley stated that
she has made contact with Richard Brown of ESOW
Roofing and he keeps putting her off. He most
recently told Ms. Hoadley that he was sending his
guys over and never did. Mr. Sims asked how much
time Ms. Hoadley was looking for and Ms. Hoadley
stated at least 30 days. She is also looking for a new
handyman as well. Mr. Johnson motioned for a 60
day extension, second by Mr. Pontoni. 60 day
extension granted.
4. 324 Riverside (House)
Issue #EN2-06894
Compliance Officer: Yolanda Johnson
Homeowner not present. Mrs. Johnson stated there
were several exterior violations found during the
property survey. As the property owner was not
present, Mrs. Johnson suggested affirming the order
as written. Mr. Pontoni motioned to affirm as written,
second by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed
5. 521 Wentworth (House)
Issue #EN22-06270
Compliance Officer: Eric Morris
Homeowner not present. Mr. Francisco, speaking for
Mr. Morris, stated that exterior scraping and painting
violations were found during the property survey. He
recommended to affirm as written as the property
owner was not present. Mr. Johnson motioned to
affirm as written, second by Mr. Pontoini. Affirmed

6. 535 Wentworth (House)
Issue #EN22-06272
Compliance Officer: Eric Morris
Homeowner, Dan VanDongen, present. Mr.
Francisco, speaking for Mr. Morris, exterior scraping
and painting violations were found during a property
survey. Mr. Francisco recommended a 30 day
extension to make the repairs. Mr. VanDongen stated
that most of the painting has been completed other
than the rear and side of the home. Mr. Francisco
stated he would support a 60 day extension. Mr.
Pontoni motioned for a 60 days extension, second by
Mr. Johnson. 60 day extension granted.
