DIVISION STREET 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 Call to Order: 1:01 pm Roll Call for Board Members: Eric Blair, John Sims, LE Johnson, Peter Pontoni Staff Members Present: Jason Francisco, Code Compliance Manager; Jerrod Lepper, Code Compliance Officer; Angela Sulak, Secretary Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: 34 Wren and 42 Wren Approval of Minutes: Mr. Johnson made a motion to approve the July 20, 2022 minutes, second by Mr. Sims. Approved. Dangerous Buildings Show Cause Hearings: a. 134 Lathrop (House) Issue E22-05838 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Mr. Wilkinson stated that the property has extensive damage from the fire that occurred on April 21, 2022 and was affirmed as a Dangerous Building by the Dangerous Building Official. Mr. Wilkinson was told by the property owner that they intended to demolish the structure, but no permits have been applied for. In its current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, second by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed b. 123 Spring St (House) Issue EN22-06924 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Mr. Wilkinson stated that the property has extensive damage from the fire that occurred May 14, 2022. In its current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Sims motioned to affirm as written, second by Mr. Johnson. Affirmed Housing Board of Appeals August 17 2022 Page 2 of 2 New Business: 1. 118 Somerset (House) Issue #EN22-05973 Compliance Officer: Jerrod Lepper Homeowner, Fetina Hopkins, present. Mr. Lepper stated that the property has exterior violations of missing siding and shingles on the front of the house. Ms. Hopkins stated that she needs another month or two to complete the repairs. Mr. Lepper approves of granting a 60-day extension. Mr. Sims motioned for a 60-day extension, second by Mr. Johnson. 60-day extension granted. Public Comments: None Board and Staff Members Comments: Mr. Pontoni asked why the two Wren addresses were removed from the agenda. Mr. Francisco stated that the property owner came to the office a day early. The property owner is in poor health, and wanted to request just a few more weeks to make the repairs. Mr. Francisco granted the owner a 30-day administrative extension, allowing the properties to be removed from the agenda.
