Official Proceedings of the Battle Creek Civil Service Commission City Hall 10 N. Division Street Commission Chambers Battle Creek, Michigan July 23, 2018 4:00 P.M. MEMBERS PRESENT: Commissioners Al Giguere, Tim Martinovich and Michael Roller MEMBERS ABSENT: Nancy Mullett, Labor Relations STAFF PRESENT: Victoria Houser, City Clerk; Martin Erskine and Michelle Hughey, Battalion Chiefs CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Giguere called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM and recognized that a quorum was present. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS: There were no petitions or communications. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Comm. Roller, supported by Comm. Martinovich, made a motion to approve the Civil Service Commission meeting minutes of June 26, 2018. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. REPORTS: There were none. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: There was none. NEW BUSINESS 1. Authorize the City Clerk to proceed with the “2018 Fire Training Officer Promotional Testing” process Comm. Martinovich, supported by Comm. Roller, made a motion to authorize the City Clerk to proceed with the “2018 Fire Training Officer Promotional Testing” process. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. 2. Authorize the City Clerk to proceed with the “2018 Entry Level Fire Fighting Testing” process Comm. Roller, supported by Comm. Martinovich, made a motion to authorize the City Clerk to proceed with the “2018 Entry Level Fire Fighting Testing” process. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. PUBLIC COMMENT: Battalion Chief Erskine introduced newly appointed Battalion Chief Michelle Hughey. Batt. Chief Erskine also noted the City of Kalamazoo will no longer be conducting physical agility testing and were donating their equipment to Battle Creek. Batt. Chief Erskine also noted the City of Grand Rapids would be doing CPAT testing instead of the physical agility testing. COMMISSION COMMENT: Comm. Giguere requested everyone keep the victims of the fire at the Village Apartments in their thoughts and prayers, hoping they are able to get their lives back to normal quickly. Comm. Giguere also complimented the work of the Battle Creek Fire Department, and the Emmett, Pennfield and VA Fire Departments for working together to protect the lives of the residents. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Giguere adjourned the meeting at 4:05 PM. 1
