City of Battle Creek Election Commission Meeting 10 N. Division Street – Room 112 Battle Creek, MI July 17, 2018 9:00 AM Present: Jill Steele, Steve Hudson and Vicki Houser Absent: None Guests: None Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. Approval of Minutes (April 17, 2018 and May 1, 2018) A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Attorney Steele, to approve the April 17, 2018 and May 1, 2018 Election Commission meeting minutes. All in favor, none opposed. Motion approved. Appointment of Election Inspectors for the August 7, 2018 Primary Election Clerk Houser presented a list of election inspectors for the August 7, 2018 School Election. Clerk Houser informed the Commission of some recent changes necessary as an election chairperson and his wife, an Electronic Poll Book operator needed to be moved to a different precinct, as he was a county commission candidate in the precinct previously assigned. Clerk Houser also noted that although there was not an even balance of Republican and Democratic inspectors, at least one Republican and one Democrat were assigned to each precinct. Clerk Houser also noted 26 inspectors were either new or had only worked one prior election. A motion was made by Attorney Steele, supported by Assessor Hudson, to appoint the precinct inspectors, as presented, for the August 7, 2018 Primary Election. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. Public Accuracy Test: Clerk Houser presented the August 7, 2018 election test deck, stating the testing would be performed with an expectation the Optical Scan Tabulator results would match the test deck provided, with the addition of one to each position to account for the ICX (ADA) ballots. Clerk Houser inserted each ballot, describing the reasoning for the ballot marking, and the expected result from the tabulator. Upon completion of the ballot testing, Clerk Houser printed the totals tape, confirming the totals matched the results on the test deck, verifying the totals with Attorney Steele and Assessor Hudson.
