1. Call to Order: Mr. Hamilton called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm

Property Owner was not present.
Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported an inspection was conducted on July
26, 2011 and the following violations were identified per the City of Battle Creek’s, Chapter 1454,
Codified Ordinances.
1454.01(9). . . A building or structure is vacant, dilapidated, or open at door or window, leaving the
interior of the building exposed to the elements or accessible to entrance by trespassers, or becomes a
haven for vermin, rodents, vectors or other insects and animals odious to humans.
Carman Hamilton asked if there were any comments. Hearing none, Mr. Hamilton stated this property
is affirmed as a Dangerous Building and represents a hazardous condition in the neighborhood and the
community as a whole; therefore, the Board will grant the property owner (30) thirty days to bring it
into compliance and/or demolish the structure.

Property Owner was not present.
Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported an inspection was conducted on July
26, 2011 and the following violations were identified per the City of Battle Creek’s, Chapter 1454,
Codified Ordinances.
1454.01(7). . . The building or structure is damaged by fire, wind or flood, or is dilapidated or
deteriorated and becomes an attractive nuisance to children who might play in the building or structure
to their danger, or becomes a harbor for vagrants, criminal, or immoral persons, or enables persons to
resort to the building or structure for committing a nuisance or an unlawful or immoral act.

Property Owner, Kenneth Smith was present.
Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported an inspection was conducted on July
26, 2011 and the following violations were identified per the City of Battle Creek’s, Chapter 1454,
Codified Ordinances.
1454.01(9). . . A building or structure is vacant, dilapidated, or open at door or window, leaving the
interior of the building exposed to the elements or accessible to entrance by trespassers, or becomes a
haven for vermin, rodents, vectors or other insects and animals odious to humans.
Property owner states that the house is secure and taken care of. He had wanted to open a business
there but it never materialized. He is thinking of selling it or using it for storage. Mr. Hamilton advised
him that it still needs an interior inspection and it may need to be brought up to code. Mr. Hamilton
suggests that if he wants to sell it than he should have it listed before that August 15 meeting of the
Housing Board of Appeals.

Carman Hamilton asked if there were any comments. Hearing none, Mr. Hamilton stated this property

Property Owner Marguerite Grumeretz was present.
Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported an inspection was conducted on July
26, 2011 and the following violations were identified per the City of Battle Creek’s, Chapter 1454,
Codified Ordinances.

Property Owner states that the house was damaged by the May 2011 storm. Mrs. Grumeretz
stated that there was no insurance on the property at that time and they cannot to fix it.

is affirmed as a Dangerous Building and represents a hazardous condition in the neighborhood and the
community as a whole; therefore, the Board will grant the property owner (30) thirty days to bring it
into compliance and/or demolish the structure.
