DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING MINUTES July 10, 2013 1:00 P.M. CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 1:05 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator and Lisa Silkworth, Secretary 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none 5. Approval of Minutes: Mr. Hamilton approved the minutes from the June 12, 2013 meeting. 6. New Business: a. 1525 Capital Ave SW Issue#EN13-02572 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owner, not present. Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported the house has been vacant for over 180 days, lacks property maintenance and has no water service. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. b. 73 Fairview Ave Issue#EN13-02746 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owner, not present. William Jozwiak, owner of 71 Fairview, is concerned about the condition of the house. Mr. Jozwiak wants to know if the house will be demolished. Dennis McKinley, code Dangerous Buildings Hearing July 10, 2013 Page 2 of 2 Compliance Administrator, noted the property was severely damaged by fire on June 2, 2013. Mr. McKinley also stated the house is posted as condemned. Mr. Jozwiak noted concerns with his house due to the condition of this house. Mr. Jozwiak wanted to know if there would be problems in the rental process on his home at 71 Fairview due to the fire. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. c. 52 Vale Issue#EN13-02573 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owner, Gary Loyd, present. Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator noted the property has been damaged by fire. Mr. McKinley also stated that repairs will require permits to be pulled. Mr. Loyd, is the land contract holder of record and he stated he had no insurance on the property. Mr. McKinley noted the City of Battle Creek will not take the property and the owner will be responsible for the property. Mr. Loyd stated he is unable to make the repairs. Mr. Hamilton confirmed it as a dangerous building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. 7. Public Comments: none 8. Board and Staff Members Comments: none 9. Adjournment: 1:30 The City of Battle Creek will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audiotapes of printed materials being considered in the meeting upon reasonable notice to the City of Battle Creek.
