DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING NOTICE AND AGENDA January 8, 2014 1:00 P.M. CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 1:05pm 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, Lisa Silkworth, Secretary 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none 5. Approval of Minutes: Mr. Hamilton approved the minutes from the December 11, 2013 meeting. 6. New Business: a. 627 Capital Ave NE Issue#EN13-06138 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owner, not present. Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, noted the property was condemned due to lead hazards. Mr. Hamilton affirmed is as a dangerous building and granted 20 days to bring it into compliance. b. 93 Grenville Issue#EN13-06237 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owner, not present. Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported the property was vacant, has no water service, and lacks maintenance. Mr. McKinley also stated there were some exterior violations needing repair. Dangerous Buildings Hearing November 13, 2013 Page 2 of 2 Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted 30 days to bring it into compliance. c. 717 N Washington Issue#EN13-6025 Code Compliance Administrator: Dennis McKinley Property owners, Kirk White and Anita White, present. Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator, reported the house was severely damaged by fire on May 27, 2013. Mr. McKinley noted the building inspector Don Wilkinson inspected the property and permits would need to be pulled to make the appropriate repairs. Cost of repairs is estimated at $88,190. Ms. White stated they have cleaned the outside and inside of the house and removed burned materials. Ms. White noted they had sold the property on land contract but the purchaser had defaulted on the payments. Ms. White is in the process of evicting the purchaser. Ms. White is requesting time to evict the land contract holder and repair the structure. Ms. White would like until September 2014. Mr. McKinley recommended affirming it as a dangerous building, grant sixty days and continue it through the process. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted sixty days to bring it into compliance. 7. Public Comments: none 8. Board and Staff Members Comments: none 9. Adjournment: 1:35pm The City of Battle Creek will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audiotapes of printed materials being considered in the meeting upon reasonable notice to the City of Battle Creek.
