DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING MINUTES January 14, 2015 1:00 P.M. CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 1:08pm 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Dennis McKinley, Code Compliance Administrator; Lisa Silkworth, Secretary; Don Wilkinson, Building Inspector 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none 5. Approval of Minutes: Carman Hamilton approved the minutes from the December 10, 2014. 6. New Business: a. 74 Chestnut (Commercial) Issue#EN14-26778 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, James Dixon, present. Don Wilkinson, Building Inspector, reported the property was heavily damaged by fire. The cost estimate of repair is $56,412 and an SEV of $36,964. Mr. Dixon stated he intends to repair the property and bring it into compliance. Mr. Dixon stated he intends to start the repairs in February and hopes to have it completed in six to nine months. Mr. Wilkinson noted an architect or engineer needs to be involved due to the fact that the property is considered commercial. Mr. Wilkinson explained the permit and inspection process. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a dangerous building and granting 30 days to bring it into compliance. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted 30 days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. b. 766 Ingram (Residential) Issue#EN14-26789 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Dangerous Buildings Hearing January 14, 2014 Page 2 of 2 Property owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Inspector, noted the property was damaged by fire. The cost estimate of repair is $45,953 and the SEV is $22,666. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted 30 days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. c. 1021 Raymond Rd (Commercial) Issue#EN14-26390 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Inspector, stated the property had change of use and work done with no permits. The cost estimate of repair is $150,000 and the SEV is $88,234. Mr. Hamilton affirmed it as a dangerous building and granted 30 days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. 7. Public Comments: none 8. Board and Staff Members Comments: none 9.
