DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING MINUTES April 11, 2018 1:00 P.M. CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Richard Bolek, Chief Building Official; Don Wilkinson, Building Official; Lisa Silkworth, Secretary 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none 5. Approval of Minutes: Carman Hamilton approved the minutes from the February 14, 2018 meeting. 6. New Business: a. 57 S 26th St (House) Issue#EN18-00018 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property Owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the property was damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. b. 209 Parkway (House) Issue#EN18-00017 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the house has been vacant, lacks utilities, and lacks maintenance. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the property was damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. d. 417 Capital Ave SW (House) Issue#EN18-00787 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the house has been vacant, lacks utilities, and lacks maintenance. Mr. Wilkinson noted a building permit has been applied for. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. e. 87 Howland (House) Issue#EN18-00788 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, Michelle Williams, present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the property was damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Ms. Williams stated she plans to repair the damage and keep the house. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. f. 369 N Bedford (House) Issue#EN18-01540 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Dangerous Buildings Hearing April 11, 2018 Page 3 of 3 Property owner, Chris Palmer, present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the house was condemned after a Police Drug raid and has been condemned. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the building as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Palmer stated he intends to rent the house and plans on renovating the house. Mr. Palmer stated he just bought the property. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. g. 45 College (House) Issue#EN18-02541 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated the house has been vacant, lacks utilities, and lacks maintenance. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. 7. Public Comments: none 8. Board and Staff Members Comments: none 9.
