DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING MINUTES September 11, 2019 1:00 P.M. CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 1:02 pm 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Don Wilkinson, Building Official; Richard Bolek, Chief Building Official, Angela Hubbard, Secretary 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: N/A 5. Approval of Minutes: Mr. Hamilton approved the minutes from the June 12, 2019 meeting. Approved 6. New Business: a. 44 Janoah Ave (House) Issue #EN19-07932 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Homeowner not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was extensively damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring into compliance. Affirmed. b. 4269 Beckley Rd (House) Issue #EN18-11614 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Homeowner not present. Mr. Wilkinson stated that property has been vacant since 2013 and the Certificate of Occupancy was revoked February 2014. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. c. 26 32nd St N (House) Issue #EN19-00956 Dangerous Buildings Hearing September 11, 2019 Page 2 of 2 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Eric Blair, owner, present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was extensively damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson stated that Mr. Blair has pulled a building permit and is making repairs. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building, but would like to grant Mr. Blair 90 days to bring into compliance with a progress check in that 90 days. Mr. Blair posed a question if new construction was put on the DB, as basically the home is being renovated to the studs? Why would this home be put on the Dangerous Buildings list? Mr. Wilkinson stated the home was placed on the DB list due to the fire. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted ninety days to bring into compliance. Affirmed. d. 67 Avery (House ) Issue #EN19-00357 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Homeowner not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was heavily damaged by fire. Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming the property as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring into compliance. Affirmed. 7. Public Comments: none 8. Board and Staff Members Comments: none 9. Adjournment: 1:07pm The City of Battle Creek will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audiotapes of printed materials being considered in the meeting upon reasonable notice to the City of Battle Creek.
