DANGEROUS BUILDINGS HEARING MINUTES March 10, 2021 1:00 P.M. Via Zoom CITY HALL 10 N. DIVISION STREET COMMISSION CHAMBERS 3RD FLOOR – ROOM 301 BATTLE CREEK MI 49014 1. Call to Order: 1:02 pm 2. Roll Call: Carman Hamilton 3. Staff Members Present: Don Wilkinson, Building Official; Richard Bolek, Chief Building Official; Angela Hubbard, Secretary 4. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: None 5. Approval of Minutes: Mr. Hamilton approved the minutes from the December 9, 2020 meeting. Approved 6. New Business: a. 180 Upton (House) Issue #EN20-10046 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was heavily damaged by fire. In its present condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring it into compliance. Affirmed. b. 21 Glenwood (House) Issue #EN21-00054 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property was heavily damaged by fire. In its present condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building. Property is scheduled to start demolition March 23, 2021. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring into compliance. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property has extensive fire damage. In its present condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building. Mr. Walker stated that the property cannot be repaired and he’d just assume get rid of it. He would like to tear it down. There is fire escrow on the property. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring into compliance. Affirmed d. 120 LaMora (House) Issue #EN20-08954 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner, Cathelous Edwards, present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property Back room was heavily damaged by fire. In its current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building. Ms. Edwards stated she’d like to be finished with the property and not repair it. She questioned what she needed to do. Mr. Wilkinson stated that she can repair or pay to have the home demolished. There is fire escrow on the property. Mr. Hamilton affirmed the property as a Dangerous Building and granted thirty days to bring into compliance. Affirmed e. 889 Columbia (Business) Issue #EN21-00426 Building Inspector: Don Wilkinson Property owner not present. Don Wilkinson, Building Official, stated property has extensive fire damage. In the property’s current condition, Mr. Wilkinson recommended affirming it as a Dangerous Building.
