City of Battle Creek Election Commission Meeting 10 N. Division Street – Room 111 Battle Creek, MI July 3, 2017 12:00 AM Present: Steve Hudson and Vicki Houser Absent: Jill Steele Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 12:00 P.M. Approval of Minutes: Clerk Houser noted the first order of business was the approval of the October 11, 2016 meeting minutes. A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Clerk Houser, to approve the October 11, 2016 Election Commission meeting minutes. All yes, none opposed. Motion carried. Consolidation of Precincts 11 & 14: Clerk Houser noted the next item to consider is the consolidation of Precincts 11 & 14 into one Precinct 11. Clerk Houser noted this was previously one precinct, but was split in March 2013 to keep the number of precincts consistent and not eliminate the number 14 from the 23 city precincts. Clerk Houser noted the consolidated precinct would now have 2,585 registered voters, noting a precinct could not have more than 2,999 registered voters. A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Clerk Houser, to approve the consolidation of precincts 11 & 14 into one Precinct, Precinct 11. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. Relocation of Polling Location for Precinct 11: Clerk Houser noted the next order of business was to consider a new polling location for Precinct 11, noting the previous location was purchased by a different church, and that they would be holding weekly services on Tuesdays, and therefore could no longer allow the building to be used as a polling location. Clerk Houser informed the Commission that First Wesleyan Church, located at 14425 S. Helmer Road, currently hosted Precincts 5 & 20, and had agreed to host Precinct 11 also. Clerk Houser noted the new location was still within Ward 5 and only 3.9 miles from the previous polling location, and 4.6 miles from the voter who lived the farthest from First Wesleyan Church. A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Clerk Houser, to approve the new polling location of First Wesleyan Church, located a 14425 S. Helmer Road for Precinct 11. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. Clerk Houser stated she would contact Printing Systems regarding the changes and send the digital file so that new voter ID cards could be printed and mailed.
