City of Battle Creek Election Commission Meeting 10 N. Division Street – Room 111 Battle Creek, MI August 15, 2017 10:30 AM Present: Steve Hudson, Jill Steele and Vicki Houser Absent: None Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 10:33 P.M. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Attorney Steele, to approve the July 3, 2017 Election Commission meeting minutes. All yes, none opposed. Motion carried. City Commission Candidates: Clerk Houser reviewed the list of Battle Creek City Commission candidates for each Ward and At-Large positions. Consolidation of Precincts for the November 7, 2017 City Election: Clerk Houser discussed the consolidation of precincts for the November 7, 2017 City Commission Election, noting precincts in the same polling location would be consolidated, and that consolidated precincts shall not exceed 5,000 active registered voters. Clerk Houser noted precincts 1, 8, 11, 18 and 19 would not be consolidated. Clerk Houser also noted the consolidation of Precincts 2 and 3, and Precincts 7 and 13 would result in A and B ballots, as the precincts were in different City Wards. Clerk Houser noted the following proposed consolidations: Precincts 2 and 3 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Battle Creek First Assembly of God. (2,958) Precincts 4 and 10 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Christ United Methodist Church. (3,785) Precincts 5 and 20 to be consolidated, with a polling location at First Wesleyan Church. (3,267) Precincts 6 and 9 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. (3,018) Precincts 7 and 13 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Trinity United Methodist Church. (3,034) Precincts 12 and 21 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Second Baptist Missionary Church. (3,755) Precincts 15, 16 and 17 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Emmett Street Missionary Church. (4,243) Precincts 22 and 23 to be consolidated, with a polling location at Battle Creek First Assembly of God. (3,190) A motion was made by Assessor Hudson, supported by Attorney Steele, to consolidate the precincts as proposed for the November 7, 2017 election. All yes, none opposed. Motion approved. Public Accuracy Testing: Clerk Houser requested the Election Commission reserve the date of Monday, October 30, 2017 at 9:00 am for the November 7, 2017 Election Public Accuracy Testing. Clerk Houser noted the testing would be performed on the new election equipment, stating the equipment was received by her office on Friday, August 11, 2017. Clerk Houser also informed the Commission that the ballot boxes that were delivered did not properly fit on the carts and the vendor, Election Source would be sending staff to Battle Creek to repair/modify the ballot boxes so that they fit properly.
