ETHICS POLICY REVIEW COMMITTEE April 26, 2005 2:00 p.m. Conference Room 302A 10 N. Division Street Battle Creek, MI Committee Members Present: Commissioners Baldwin, Bullock, and Hersha Staff Present: Dawn Hammond Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Hersha at 2:10 p.m. Proposed questions for commissioner input. Public Comment: None Old Business: Commissioner Hersha passed out the hand out of the survey questions for the 2005 Review of the Code of Ethics for Battle Creek City Commissioners, which will then be reviewed and revised as needed. Commissioner Baldwin suggested that to include what the current code states and add a couple of explanatory sentences, also. Commissioner Bullock suggested that in question #8, including future City Commissioners be removed from the handout. Commissioner Baldwin wondered what is stated in the code of ethics about campaign contributions. Commissioner Hersha stated that current code of ethics requires disclosure of financial, judicial, or personal relationships. Commissioner Hersha read revised question 6a) Should Section 6 of the Code of Ethics be amended to require campaign contributions to be explicitly disclosed to the City Commission? 6b) If so, over which dollar amount should such campaign contributions be disclosed? Commissioner Hersha suggested to send the City Commissioners the red-outlined copy for the proposed changes. Commissioner Hersha stated that the deadline would be one week from the final review and should be turned into the City Manager’s Office. Adjournment: Commissioner Hersha adjourned the meeting at 3:35 p.m. DH/mmj
