JOHN PAUL WILSON. ALL IN FAVOR; NONE OPPOSED; MINUTES APPROVED CORRESPONDENCE: None OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: A. Jeffrey Sims of Vision Builders LLC H-15-18: Request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to repair and restore the west wing steeple and put a steeple compatible on the east wing, located at 74 E Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49017 Therefore, planning staff recommends approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness be issued to Jeffrey Sims of Vision Builders LLC to repair and restore the west wing steeple and put a steeple compatible on the east wing if the Commission is satisfied that the Applicant can meet at least one of the criteria outlined in Chapter 1470.11 “Preservation of Historic Features”, and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines, as outlined in the staff report. MOTION MADE BY MR. MIKE TROUTMAN TO APPROVE THE CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS TO REPAIR AND RESTORE THE WEST WING STEEPLE AND PUT A STEEPLE COMPATIBLE ON THE EAST WING OF 74 E MICHIGAN AVE, BATTLE CREEK MI; SECONDED BY MR. CHARLIE FULBRIGHT. VOTE ON MOTION: ALL IN FAVOR; NONE OPPOSED; MOTION CARRIED. 1  B. Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) H-16-18: Request for Notice to Proceed to demolish the commercial building at 85 & 87 W. Michigan Ave. Therefore, planning staff recommends approval of the Request for Notice to Proceed to demolish the commercial building at 85 & 87 W Michigan Ave, Battle Creek MI be issued to Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) if the Commission is satisfied that the Applicant can meet at least one of the criteria outlined in Chapter 1470.09(e) “Review of Applications”, and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines, as outlined in the staff report. MOTION MADE BY MR. DAN BUSCHER TO APPROVE THE NOTICE TO PROCEED FOR THE DEMOLATION AT 85 & 87 W MICHIGAN AVE, BATTLE CREEK MI; SECONDED BY MR. CHARLIE FULBRIGHT. VOTE ON MOTION: ALL IN FAVOR; NONE OPPOSED; MOTION CARRIED. C. Tara Hampton (staff report and application to follow) H-17-18: : Request for new signage located at 32 W Michigan Ave Therefore, planning staff recommends approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness be issued Tara Hampton at 32 W Michigan Ave, if the Commission is satisfied that the Applicant can meet at least one of the criteria outlined in Chapter 1470.09(e) “Review of Applications”, and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines, as outlined in the staff report. MOTION MADE BY MR. DAN BUSCHER TO ADJOURN “Postpone” THE NOTICE UNTIL THE NEXT MEETING WHEN THE APPLICANT CAN BE PRESENT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS; SECONDED BY MR. MIKE TROUTMAN. VOTE ON MOTION: ALL IN FAVOR; NONE OPPOSED; MOTION CARRIED TO ADJOURN “Postpone” UNTIL NEXT MEETING. With no others wishing to speak, Chairperson Hopkins closed the public hearing. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None COMMENTS FROM COMMISSION MEMBERS AND STAFF: Kaytee Faris asked how the downtown business owners are being notified of the Historic District regulations concerning their buildings/signage. Ted Dearing Assistant City Manager stated that they need to make a bigger effort to provide that information. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Jim Hopkins, Chairman adjourned the meeting at 5:00 P.M.
