POST/FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL Thursday, Apr 4, 2013 7:00 p.m. The Chair James Moreno called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. at CA Board Room. ATTENDANCE: Members Present: Linda Carmona, John Cash, Cynthia Fritz, Diana Quigg, Yvonne Powell, Pat Shellenberger, Don Stormer, and James Moreno. Members Excused: Eliose Fogg Katie Hubbard, Deborah Perkins, and Gilbert Ortiz Guests and Visitors: Sherry Sofia – City Comm., Lynn Ward Gray – City Comm., Tanas and Pamela Geleff, Adam Castle – American Red Cross, Sgt. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion to approved Mar minutes with noted change that March meeting was held in the CA Board Room and not at Franklin School was made by Diana and Seconded by John C. Motion was approved. CORRESPONDENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: • Ward 2 Town Hall Mtg. – “Keeping you Informed” May 30, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 638 W. Van Buren – RSVP 269-830-2456. • Battle Creek Regional Job Fair – Apr. 12th from 1-4 p.m. at McCamly Plaza Hotel. • – at KCC there will be a Spring Recycling Rama • Guardian Finance/Advocacy Service has a P/T position for a Rep. Payee Spec/Social Work Customer Sev. Rep. Contact Martha Morgan at 269-3253 x434. • Delta Red Carpet Event – Join us for a special Screening of the Movie – 42 True Story of an American Legend. Apr 14 Lakeview Cinema at 4:00 p.m. • BC Park and Rec will be holding Master Planning community Focus Group meetings on Wednesday. There are 4 sessions from 2-3, 3:30-4:30, 5-6 and 6:30-7:30. Contact Ted Dearing at tedearing@battle.creek.mi.gov for more information. • New World-Reading/Literacy Matters is at Lakeview Square Mall Mar 15-Apr 15. • Non-Profit Training to be held this Spring 2013 at KCC Lifelong Learning Professional Institute. • Jr. League of Battle Creek has grant opportunities. Must be received by Apr. 15. Current area of focus is on the prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. • Calhoun Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention Council 2013 Community Support application is available. COMMITTEE AND STAFF REPORTS: Police: Sgt. Elliott and Ofc. Marshall reported on the patrols in the Post/Franklin area. If they are not at the meetings then they are on calls which are their 1st priority. Call 911 for emergencies and for non-emergencies call 781- 0911. Kudos to Officer Wood for his work at Franklin School. The following as reported: • Basketball hoops left in road – East Kingman down past Illinois. • 9 Post – Front Yard parking. • 21 East Kingman – Parking over the sidewalk. Code: Dennis distributed Code Stats. Talked in general and everyone looked over the Code Stats. He reported that 797 East Michigan was going thru the Dangerous Building process. May 1-Oct 31 the long grass Ordinance goes into effect. The following issues were reported: • Door missing on White House on Academy – it is leaning up against Mike’s Place. • Cliff and Main Street – The fence was reported and Dennis reported that the house was sold. Planning: None Beautiful Battle Creek Award: None. If you see a property that should be awarded please take note of the address and bring to next meeting or call an officer. We still have a few that will be awarded. Cindy will check to see what we have outstanding. Membership: James reported that he has made numerous attempts to contact Michael Gheer as he has been absent for 6 months. A motion to remove Michael Gheer from our membership was made by Linda and seconded by Diana. Motion was approved by all. James will send a letter to him. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Comm. Lynn Ward-Gray reported that the agenda for the City Commission meeting was available. On the agenda was the contract for the private company for the Tower at the Airport. Redistricting meeting is Wed. and Access Vision “Keeping you Informed” on May 8th will be about the redistricting. Remember to vote on May 7 for the sinking fund renewal for Battle Creek Public Schools. NPC#2 is having a luncheon for all the church leaders in their area. They will present an overview of the NPC to them. May 7th is also the Community Prayer Breakfast. Comm. Gray said that the Police Corruption issue is being looked into, but was not commenting until all the data was received and results given. Battle Creek Public Schools: No Representative present. OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: Adam Castle of the American Red Cross presented an overview of the 1st Responders Disaster Preparedness and how the Red Cross and many other agencies work together in times of emergency. He encouraged individuals to become active in their community as first responder. Everyone in attendance was given an emergency kit. Apr. 14 from 2-4 the Battle Creek Chapter will host an Open House from 2-4. Next Month: A presentation by the Battle Creek Community Foundation on the application process for Neighborhood Planning Councils who wish to apply for Mini- Grants. MEMBER COMMENTS: None.
