POST/FRANKLIN NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL Doris Hale Facility 100 Green Street Thursday, March 6, 2025 @ 7:00 PM James Moreno called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm at the Doris Hale Facility. Attendance: Members Present: Cindy Fritz, Pamela Geleff, James Moreno, Yvonne Powell, Kjersten Sullivan, Pat Shellenberger, Faye Washington Members Excused: Andre Hoaglin-Jackson, Ryan Hoaglin-Jackson, LaMarr Mingle, Mary Fields City Staff/Commissioners: Mitchell Mears, BCPD COPS Officer, Tom Engle, Code Guests and Visitors: Ron Auton, Calhoun County Senior Milage, Manager Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: None Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve the February 6, 2025, minutes was made by Yvonne Powell, seconded by Pam Geleff. Motion carried. Correspondence and Announcements: Reminder that the Post/Franklin Land Reuse meetings are held 1 hour prior to our regular NPC meeting. Please share with your neighbors or others you think may be interested in joining the discussion. The public hearing for the Consolidated Plan will be held last commission meeting for this month, please attend to show support. Committee and Staff Reports Police Report: Mitchell Mears distributed the crime statistics report and apologized it was for the previous month. He continues to work on traffic and parking enforcement. The Burnham property has been cleared of people, there is still a lot of trash. Working with. Code to get it cleared. He shared before and after photos of the site. He is also working with property owner. Code: Tommy distributed the code report and circulated the code request sheet. He shared that the items regarding trade permit expirations dealt with permits for roofing or other housing repairs that required a permit. 120 Highway was reported for repeatedly putting out garbage on Saturday; pickup is not until Wednesday. 23 E Kingman was reported as having a large pile of trash against front of house; owners lost home to foreclosure and have vacated the home. Request that the entity owning home be contacted and asked to clean this up. Beautiful Battle Creek: It is too early to be out looking at properties. Membership: Reminder to talk to your neighbor(s) or individuals you feel would be interested in joining our council. Commissioner Comments: None Old Business: Land bank conversations are held each month 1 hour prior to the regularly scheduled NPC meeting. Next meeting will be at 6pm on April 3, 2025. We have made good progress in the review and disposition of Land Bank properties thus far. New Business: Ron Auton, Manager of the Calhoun County Senior Milage passed out presentation on the purpose and services that are provided under the Senior Milage. He shared that the work is on-going, and they are always looking for input on services and assistance that senior may need. This segwayed to the matter of Senior Ambassadors. These individuals know there community and their neighborhood and are more apt to know seniors that may need assistance, but may not know about it or are unwilling to ask for asssitance. The Senior Milage received a grant to address food insecurity amongst seniors. The Senior Ambassador program is a key part of this effort. Individuals interested in more information on the Senior Milage or the Senior Ambassador program should contact Senior Milage at 269-781-0700, Rebecca DeFinta. Member Comments: All were thanked for their attendance and participation tonight. Pastor Sullivan shared that she has take a position with the Lutheran Church Sanot and will be leaving her pastoral position at Trinity Lutheran Church. She is staying in Battle Creek.
