WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes October 22, 2012 The meeting was held at First Assembly of God Church, 800 S. 24th Street, Battle Creek Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:00pm Cecil Salinas led the invocation. Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Julie Davis, Gary Dodd, Tom Frame, Pete Francisco, Joyce Garrett, Cecil Salinas, Mike Troutman Commissioners Jeff Domenico and Mary Lou Ramon Guests: Commissioner Sheri Sofia, Officers Winer and Officer Gettel , John Cash, Dave Peterson, Lauara Adams, David Gilbert, Dawn ?. City staff: Jason Francisco Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: None Additions or Deletions to Agenda: Dave Peterson would like to address the school renewal millage. Minutes: Commissioner Ramon motioned to approve September 2012 minutes with support from Dave Weaver. Minutes were approved as written. Police Report: Officer Winer handed out the written reports. He reminded everyone to alert police if you see unusual activity in your neighborhood. Officer Gettel ,started in August with our police was introduced to the group. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: Jeff Domenico stated that the commission will meet on the 13th and the 20th of the month because of elections. Mary Lou Ramon shared that the commission is looking at the way paperwork is served to homeowners for code violations. A resolution is pending. Committee Reports: a. Membership : Brochures have been produced by Neighborhoods Inc, sharing what a NPC does. We have many to distribute, so please use them and increase our membership. Linda will prepare an attendance listing of the last year and provide it to members for the new year. b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award‐ Jeff Koteles‐ 1146 S. 24th St address is nominated. Another nomination is 1109 S. 24th Street. c. Neighborhood Planning‐ Nothing new D. Woodland Park‐ There are a few large barrels in the middle of the park that need removal, approximately 150 yards from the entrance. Gary Dodd asked for commissioners help in getting rid of them. The contents of the barrels is unknown. Spooky Science Saturday is Oct 27th and the park will have a booth. There is a dead tree branch still hanging over the park's sign on Gething's road and the city is asked to remove it. City Staff Report: Jason Francisco passed out written reports. They are checking into why our NPC has violations of other NPC in it's reports. Nothing unusual in the report. Hot‐N‐Now has graffiti spray paint on it. The city will have it painted over, but not removed. New Business: Nominating committee will be made up by Joyce Garrett and Linda Patenaude. Program: Prosecutor candidate David Gilbert shared his experience and visions for election and answered many questions. Susan Maldenhoff the current Prosecutor, was invited numerous times and did not respond. David Peterson encouraged people to vote for the renewal of the 6 year 18 mills school ballot. This millage represents 10% of the school budget. Comments for the Good of the Order: a. Public Comments • John Cash endorsed Dave Gilbert for prosecutor. b. Member Comments: • David Weaver announced he has secured David Peterson, Lakeview School District and in January we will be having the city of Battle Creek Emergency Preparedness. If you would like a particular speaker contact Dave. • Jeff Domenico endorsed David Gilbert. • Linda shared that there are grants, funding/suppprt available to neighborhood groups to improve their neighborhoods and encouraged people to contact her about these Healthy Neighborhood Grants, though the Battle Creek Community Foundation. • Jeff Koteles thanked our guest speakers and attendees for coming.
