WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes April 27th, 2015 The meeting venue was changed at the last minute from First Assembly of God Church , to Lakeview Middle School, 300 S. 28th St Battle Creek MI. Members were present at the church parking lot but the building was locked due to a miscommunication. A note was posted on the door of the church of the change in meeting place and members and guests proceeded to the Middle School. Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:28pm Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Tom Rose, Karol Henegar, Diana Cole, Joyce Garrett, Kevin Kline, Gary Dodd, and Mike Troutman Commissioner Jeff Domenico Guests: Jim Hettinger; BCU, Sam Gray, Carol Quinn, Autumn Smith, & Jim Mead City staff: Daren Campbell; city engineer, BC Police Sargent Mike Wood, & BC Officer Derick Walters, & Marcie Gillette Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: Jeff thanked everyone for their patience in moving the meeting place. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: Due to time constraints some agenda items will not be discussed. Minutes: Joyce Garrett, with support from Jeff Domenico, motioned to accept the March 2015 minutes. Unanimous support for the motion. Police Report: Officer Walters handed out written reports. Larcenies and assaults are up a bit. He followed up on our complaints of last month regarding speeding around the schools by sitting around them when he could for a few days. He plans to make recommendations by next fall working with public works, zoning and the community to solve these problems. They are putting on their last town hall meeting in April. Special Presentation: Jim Hettinger, of Battle Creek Unlimted ws the guest speaker. A search for a new CEO and planning process to revamp it is underway. He referred to BCU as “a 42 year old economic development model.” He shared BCU’s history with the airport, the Fort Custer industrial zone and downtown developments. He answered questions from the audience. Darren Campbell, Battle Creek city engineer, shared about road repair in our area. He brought in large maps. He said that people in those areas will be notified of work on their streets. Work will be on these streets: Resurfacing: School St-entire length Ferndale Ct-entire length Breckenridge Ct-entire length Devonshire Ct-entire length Sterling Ct-entire length Iroquois Ave 24th to 31st S. 24th- W Territorial to Columbia Westchester Way - from pavement split approx.. 200 ft west of Devonshire eastwrds to cul-de- sac Chipseal Lindale Ct entire length Menno Ave-entire length City Staff Report: Marcie Gillette handed out code reports.
