WESTALKE/PRAIRIEVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #10 Meeting Minutes October 23, 2017 The meeting was held at Lakeview Senior Living Facility, 14661 S Helmer, Battle Creek, Michigan Call to Order & Welcome Chair, Jeff Koteles called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm Invocation: A moment of silence was observed Attendance: Members: Chairman: Jeff Koteles, Vice Chair: David Weaver, Secretary: Linda Patenaude, Diana Cole, Tom Rose, Donna Kowolski, Donna Jaeger, Guests: Kristin Blood, John Griffin, Ollie Griffin, Blake Prewitt (Lakeview Superintendent), Casey Fairley:KCC, City staff: Jason Francisco, BC Officer Chad Perry, Glen Perian Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: none Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none Minutes: Linda Patenaude motioned to approve the September minutes with support from Dave Weaver. Passed unanimously Police Report: Officer Chad Perry passed out written reports and answered questions. Public Service Announcements from Commissioners: none present Committee Reports:. a. Membership: Still looking for new members b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award- none c. Lakeview School District: Lakeview Supt. Blake Prewitt reported on the progress of the renovations of the schools. An option to use funds committed to the central office be used at the Middle school instead of the Woodrow site is proposed d. Woodland Park- 12 trail signs have been installed. The old silo may be a safety hazard.  City Staff Report: Shared written reports and answered questions. Smoke alarms for homes are available at Fire Station #1. New Business: none Special presentation: Glen Perian handed out master land use plans for our NPC and asked for input. Tis can be viewed at the city hall. Casey Fairley shared that KCC is getting ready to begin a short term training in November for individuals interested in a manufacturing related workforce training program. This training will result in the individual gaining certifications, while propelling his/her career forward with job placement assistance. They will have a short, four week training in November, and a longer, six week program (with more certifications) in January.
