Public Service Announcements from Commissioners:
Commissioner Sherri Sophia reported the commission is looking at a much reduced “farm” animal
ordinance from Commissioner Simmons. Just allowing chickens.
Dave Weaver, our rep for the blue ribbon committee, said there are lots of discussions about mayoral
selection. The majority of the group want an elected mayor and vice mayor position. They are
considering breaking the city into 7 wards instead of 5 and having elections every two years. Instead of
4 at large commissioners there would just be the mayor and vice mayor.
City Staff Report: Eric Morris will be our representative from the city for 6 months. He handed out
code sheets for violations in our area. They will be doing door to door inspections of our neighborhood
this summer. He shared that the city is now going to be coming to NPC’s to get opinions on traffic
“calming” implementations before they do them. They will want opinions on speed bumps, warning
signs, etc.
Committee Reports:
a. Membership: Still need new members. No postcards sent this month.
b. Beautiful Battle Creek Award We need to start doing businesses and may have to start
repeating some from years past. Also need to update and get more residential too.

the actual ordinance.
