Cole, Donna Kowalski, Mary Jane Cipcic, Ollie Griffin, Donna Jaegar, Leslie Williams, Karol
Henagar, Gary Dodd and Tom Rose
Commissioner John Griffin
Guests: Mary Ludlow, Jack Ludlow, Scott Schafer, Linda and Dale Sinclair, Carol Quinn, Blake
Prewitt and Matt Willis
City staff: Eric Morris-code and Officer Clay Hoggard
Chair Notes/Correspondence/Announcements: None
Additions/Deletions to the Agenda: none
Minutes: Minutes from August with one correction under attendance: Jarrett Ludlow should
read Jack Ludlow were approved after a motion and second from Dave and Tom.
Police Report: Officer Hoggard introduced himself as our new police officer. He asked what
info would be most helpful to us. We asked him for written reports and for specific incidents we
need to be warry of in our neighborhood. We also told him of speeding traffic. The police force
is still low on officers and is understaffed.
Public service announcements from commissioners: Commissioner John Griffin shared info on
the Blue Ribbon Committee report to the commission. The commission will consider the
recommendations. The survey that was sent to the city residents appeared to have some flaws.
The Blue Ribbon committee never got to see those findings. There appears to have been a way
for people to fill out the survey as many times as they wanted. We are hopeful that the full
commission does get to read the reports before they make a decision on how the residents will
be represented on the commission.
We asked John to encourage our newly hired ward commissioner to attend our meetings as our
representative.
We asked john to get information on the speed bump/traffic issues on 24th St.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Linda nominated Leslie Williams, who was voted in by our membership
last month has not officially been approved by the commission yet. We are still looking
for new members.
Lakeview Schools: Blake Prewitt, Lakeview superintendent, updated us on the
construction projects. In addition to the elementary school updates the middle school
will be getting rid of their portable buildings. He shared that the superintendents from
all 4 school districts get together to approximately every other month to share what
trends are taking place and ways to collaborate. He also answered questions about
suicide and the way the district handles that issue.
Beautiful Battle Creek award: 346 Lakeshore was nominated.
Woodland Park: Diana Cole reported that all the trail signs are replaced. The city took
care of a large limb that was hanging and avoided some possible mishaps.
City Staff Report: Eric Morris handed out code reports. Mattress bags are still available at
the office. Code is currently registering a large group of rentals for renewal.
Old Business: none
New Business: none
Special Presentation: Matt Willis from Reference and Adult Services at Willard Library
shared information about the many services they provide to the community. They have a
new director and are trying to do more hands on reaching out to the community. He
highlighted a few programs. They have knitting classes, e-audio books, and small business
help, Residents are even able to book a librarian to help them navigate through getting
what they need. They can help with computers, searches and more. They will be launching
a citywide program “Love Where You Live” next year.
Comments for the good of the order:
Jeff said that he was really proud of our neighborhood and appreciated all the people who
make it that way.
Coffee With a Cop is a new program that allows residents to talk with officers in a casual
setting allowing for better communication. The next one is 8-10am on Wednesday the 26th
at Continental Bakery on Columbia.
Adjournment: 8:30pm
Next Meeting: November 26, 2018 Duska Brumm will be asking us about the role Parks and
