Prior to the meeting: Leah Dodd delivered swag from Willard Library and said the meeting rooms were
available. Suggested maybe for a npc meeting in the future. JP Wilson stopped by to make sure Sarah
was available to chair the meeting.
7:00 . Sarah chaired the meeting in JP's absence.
minutes for June were approved.
BCPD officer Barrons: gave handout on enforcement activities in the npc and took questions. Code and
police work together. Made distinction between larceny, b&e, and robbery. Trend in our area is theft
from unlocked vehicles. Would get back with Chuck concerning break ins occurring in the Cornell,
McKinley area.
Code Richard Bolek: Recent enforcement activities; weeds and rental registration and getting other
rentals on board. Paint program still on. Turnover in staff is reducing experience quotient. Took notes
on properties of concern. Demolitions will be up this year.
BCPS Nathan Grajek, Theresa Yeck: Busing going more smoothly this year. Number of students enrolled
is constant with past year. Theresa gave handout about the alternative school at WK Kellogg and
explained about on line learning that is available.
City Commission K Flores by phone with Sarah: Blue ribbon committee recommendations are online.
Pet license and fees on line also.
External commission Richard Bolek: Hart Hotel and Tower renovation plans under review. New Holland
Brewery cited as an upcoming addition. Interest in development of properties downtown, with retail
below and rentals above.

Byrne Grant, Kelly Dillman: Introduced Nathan as a 6 mo neighborhood ambassador. Looking for more.
Jeff discussed difficulties with the dog park properties and was favoring the porch project to improve
curb appeal as less of a logistical headache. Kim suggested collaboration with others to expand project
impact. Mary Lusk suggested something like the Gus Macker 3x3 basketball tournament. Kelly tried to
build enthusiasm, these projects are by necessity resident driven.
new business: npc now manages Benjamin Park. The idea of a fall clean up in Oct was bandied about.
comments: Chuck asked about the status of the fire dept building Elm and Van Buren. Richard
responded it is up for demolition.
Susan commented about leaves from neighboring properties in the street becoming her responsibility.
Nathan commented on being able to turn left on Union St legally now.

Free Painting Kits: Code Compliance has teamed up with ePaint Recycling to offer free painting
kits for home projects. Applicants MUST own their residential property within the City of Battle
Creek, submit photos demonstrating a need for paint, and may not apply more than once per
calendar year. No income restrictions and projects do not have to be a result of code violations.
