MINGES BROOK/RIVERSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL 11 MEETING MINUTES March 27, 2023 Chapel Hill Church, 157 Chapel Hill Dr. Andrew Duke, President of Minges/Riverside Neighborhood Planning Council, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Church. Attendance: Members Present: Andrew Duke, Dawn Hawks, David Hawks, Brad Miller, Amanda Miller, Jane Prahl, Jan Frantz, Larry O’Neil, and Brenda Bengtsson, Members Excused: Colleen Jewel Members Absent: Jan Frantz, Kyle Labrecque, Linn Kracht, Al Skienicka, Sharen Sklenicka, Fran O’Neil, Sally Goss, Ginsie Ingraham, and Chris Bacik Signed-in Guests: Bridgete Jones and Heather Ignash from Battle Creek Unlimited City Representatives: Yolanda Johnson, Senior Code Inspector Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: Additions/Deletions: None Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: November 29, 2023 Brad Miller made a motion to approve the February Meeting Minutes. Seconded by Dave Hawks, February 28, 2023, meeting minutes approved. Correspondence and Announcements: Prayers for Colleen Jewel and family Committee and Staff Reports: a. Police Department – Ty Billing’s introduced himself to the council. He is the office for our area. b. Planning Department/Neighborhood Services City Staff Report – no report c. Beautiful Battle Creek Award Committee – committee needs to be formed d. Membership – Renewals, New Members – no report e. Commissioners Comments – no report f. Battle Creek Public Schools – no report g. Beckley Road Project – Jan reported the committee is working on a water issue. Yolanda Johnson, Senior Code Official, updated code violations and distributed code compliance and inspection issues. Membership: No additions Old Business: None to discuss New Business: The Beautiful BC Award and Guest Speaker committees will be added to the agenda in April. Beautiful BC Award notes: The award can go to businesses and residents. If going door to door may need name tags. Award should be presented at and NPC and city council meetings Guest Speaker Committee notes: Possible speakers – Lakeview superintendent, political candidates, DPW Member Comments: None Public Comments: Bridgette Jones and Heather Ignash from BCU spoke about the new Doubletree hotel downtown. It will be completely renovated with 247 rooms and several restaurants. It will be a learning hub for hospitality workers. Fourteen Battle Creek partners will be participating. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. Brad Miller made a motion to dismiss. Seconded by Dave Hawks.
