MINGES BROOK/RIVERSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL 11 MEETING MINUTES May 28, 2025 Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 157 Chapel Hill Dr. Brad Miller, Vice President of Minges/Riverside Neighborhood Planning Council, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel Hill Church. Attendance: Members Present: Amanda Miller, Brad Miller, Bernard Gladney, Brenda Bengtsson, Coleen Jewel, Dawn Hawks, David Hawks, Jane Prahl, Karen Jones, and Pat Fosdick Members Excused: Andrew Duke Members Absent: Fran O’Neil, Ginsie Ingraham, Jan Frantz, Larry O’Neil, and Linn Kracht Signed-in Guests: Judy Waren, Constance Porter, Jim Livingston, Mark Bankoard, and Nancy Moran City Representatives: BCPD Officer O’Bryant City Representatives Excused: Yolanda Johnson and Ty Dilling Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: Additions/Deletions: Nomination, and summer meetings were added to the agenda. Pat Fosdick made the motion to approve. Second by Karen Jones. Motion passed. Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: April 30, 2025 Karen Jones made the motion to approve. Second by Dave Hawks. Motion passed. Correspondence and Announcements: Several city announcements were emailed to the group. Police Department – Officer O’Bryant gave an update. Guest Speaker: Guest speakers: Brett Myers from Leila Arboretum spoke about all the good things happening at the arboretum this summer. Committee and Staff Reports: a. Guest Speakers – Ginsie Ingraham and Jane Prahl are the chairs. Future suggestions for speakers – transportation head, Lakeview School superintendent, city planner, water department and new city manager b. Code Compliance – Helen Guzzo /Yolanda Johnson – No report. c. Planning Department/Neighborhood Services City Staff Report – No report. d. Beautiful Battle Creek Award Committee – Dawn and Dave Hawks chair this committee. The June house is located at 119 Chapel Hill Drive. Battle Creek Country Club is the business selected this month. Coleen Jewel made a motion to approve the properties. Second by Dave Hawks. Motion passed. In future months, the secretary will email Helen Guzzo and Yolanda Johnson about the selected house and/or business the day after the meeting. This will speed up the award process.  Recommendations for future awards need to be sent to Dawn and Dave one week before the meeting. Dawn and Dave will give a sign to the winners that can be posted outside for 30 days. e. Membership – See below. f. Commissioners Comments – No report. g. Lakeview Public Schools – No report. g. Beckley Road Project – Jan Frantz No Report. Old Business: None to discuss New Business: The nomination committee made a motion to elect Brad Miller as chair, Brenda Bengtsson as vice chair, Amanda Miller as secretary and Bernard Gladney as backup secretary. Second by Dave Hawks. Motion passed. Bernard Gladney made a motion to meet in June, take July off, and decide in June if we will meet in August. Second by Amanda Miller. Motion passed. Member Comments: No comments. Public Comments: No comments. Adjournment: Karen Jones made the motion to adjourn. Second, by Dave Hawks. Motion passed.
