NORTHEAST PLANNING COUNCIL #4 (Fermont/Verona/McKinley) MEETING MINUTES May 21, 2025 FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 145 NE CAPITAL AVE Date: 5.21.25 Members: Dave Salerno, Tanya Waschak, Kim Perry, Boonikka Herring, Mary Lusk, Roger Koning, Kim Yarger, Chuck Yarger, Mary Conklin Guests: Rebecca Parker, Craig Long, Bryan Gandy, Pamela Kiss Minutes: Rebecca Parker, Craig Long, Bryan Gandy, Pamela Kiss BCPD: Craig handed out April crime report which reflected offenses trending down. Ticketed clerk at Froggy's for selling vapes to minors and working on discouraging people from parking on the grass at Piper Park. Code: Bryan handed out April-May code compliance and inspection issues. Reported new hire to help with tall grass. Chuck voiced frustration over having to continue to report on the McKinley St. house. Said E Lansing had tweaked it's ordinances pertaining to junk and trash in yards that give judges less leeway in extending eventual cleanup. He introduced a motion to have the city commission expedite the cleanup process. Motion passed. Rebecca solicited ideas to assist people in avoiding compliance issues. Tanya said the free paint program for residents involves too many hoops to jump, Pamela got a grant from the state to fix her home, Kim's church, St Mark Lutheran, has groups that could help. Boonikka wondered if youth groups would be available to clean up the park along Wagner Drive. Neighborhood Inc. might be available with help with home repair and maintenance. Membership: Rebecca was approved for membership. rjp396@gmail.com Comments: Tanya asked Bryan about street sweeping. Bryan suggested checking with DPW on their schedule. Mary Lusk listed a number of events that First Presbyterian Church is putting on: June 6 concert at the retreat house, July line dancing, church service Sunday morning at 10 and other events for youth and teens. Chuck gave kudos to the city's cleanup response to the wind storm. Rebecca said the Share Center has a budget shortfall and is in need of volunteers. Tanya listed the old Horrock's becoming a homeless hangout. Boonikka shared the possibility of small homes being built on empty lots. Mary Conklin finds the meeting interesting and informative.
