Community Meeting
Meeting Notes ~ August 13, 2012 ~ Second Missionary Baptist Church
1. Call to Order & Welcome: Meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. by S. Gray, chair.
2. Attendance-Members present: Lynn Ward Gray, Samuel Gray, Kitty Hillian, Bill Phillips-
NIBC and Dorothy Young Members Excused Family Health Center, Absence: Jeffrey Dinkins,
Judith Jones, Steve Lee, Keith McDonald, Sheryl McDonald, Fredrico Porter, Tammie Porter
and Betty Settles City Staff: Eric Morris, Ofcr. G. Huggett & Ofcr. C. Francisco Guest: Janet
Burton, William Burton, Al Crittenden, Vernice Crittenden, Geraldine King, Larry Martin, John
Menzie and Glen Saint Johns.
3. Approval of Previous Minutes: No quorum present. Tabled approval of July 10, 2012
meeting minutes until September 11, 2012 meeting.
4. NPC 2 History & Overview: B. Phillips gave history & overview. E. Morris, & C. Francisco
gave history & overview from a city staff perspective as well as the code and crime reports.
5. NPC 2 Block Champion Concept/Invitation: S. Gray gave overview of NPC2’s strategic
planning that lead to the two community meetings and two goals for 2012.
6. Call to Action: S. Gray gave the call to action. He invited those present to consider
membership in NPC2 and/or to take individual responsibility for what happens where they live.
7. Public Comments/Member Comments:
• Ofcr. Huggett and Ofcr. Francisco gave examples of how the foot patrol and crime diary
are making a positive impact.
• Commissioner L. Gray reported on upcoming Keeping You Informed (KYI) with on
AccessVision and how to access them On Demand and how to sign up for KYI email
blasts. She announced agenda items on the 8/14 commission agenda and the 8/17 Ethics
Policy Review Committee meeting.
• Meeting attendees had questions re: the crime diary, speeding on their street & code
compliance. B. Phillips gave an overview of the Neighborhood Crime Watch program &
its current efforts to get crime diaries & resource materials into the hands of residents.
• L. Gray asked for those present to sign cards for members A.J. Jones & Betty Settles. She
also gave a report on some code compliance issues and alleged crime activity taking
place on the northeast side of NPC2.
8. Upcoming Meetings: Tuesday, September 11, 2012; Tuesday, October 9 2012 and
Monday, November 12, 2012. All take place at 7:00 p.m. at Neighborhoods, Inc., 47 N.
Washington Ave.
9. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. by S. Gray, Chair
