Urbandale Neighborhood Planning Council #5 Council Minutes – August 13, 2012 Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church 65 North Bedford Road Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair. Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; Sara Schmanske; David Moore; Mason Mayo; Officer Adam Pembrook; Carl Brockman; Deborah Owens; Renata Shore; Fred Bachman; Stan Beckwith; Barbara Beckwith; Walter McIlroy; Jason Francisco; Joshua Fausey; Robert Wolf; Previous Minutes: June 2012 minutes requires a revision of the absence of Carl Brockman. Mr. Brockman was in attendance. The revised minutes of June 2012 & July 2012 board meetings were approved by voice vote. Police Report: Officer Adam Pembrook in attendance with no report or questions. Guest Speaker: Robert Wolf discussed the economic issues facing both the United States and Europe and how both are affecting current investments. 1.5 years ago the US had 25% of its assets invested in Europe. Now this number is down to 10% due to the volatility of the market in this area. Despite the reduction of investments in Europe, a failure in this market would have a significant impact on US economy. On the home-front, the US has to become producers again before we are forced to transition to a socialist society due to the lack of funding to sustain our current population of 40% relying on government programs for day to day survival. We need to create a system where “everyone” pulls the rope in the same direction to survive both socially and economically. Commissioner’s Report: N/A School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the fiscal year end, the audit, and updated the group on the current construction within the district. Code Report: Jason Francisco updated the group on the properties inquired about at the 7/9/2012 meeting. New issues were raised by the group for further discussion and resolution at the 9/10/2012 meeting. Membership: Carl Brockman reported Darlene Mayo and Rebecca Runyon have excused absences. Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 28 Troy as reported by Dale Stratton. Old Business: N/A New Business: NPC Leadership Workshop flyer attached for review and participation by the group.
