NORTHCENTRAL NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL #2 Meeting Minutes – Monday, July 13, 2015 – Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek 1. Call to Order & Welcome: Sam Gray called the NPC #2 meeting at 7:00 p.m. 2. Attendance, Members Present: Samuel Gray, Vice Mayor Lynn Ward Gray, Bettie Robertson, Jeffrey Dinkins, Geraldine King, Kitty Hillian, David Draper (Grace Health), Bill Phillips (NIBC), Dawn Wilkerson (NIBC), Fredrico Porter, Ron Sweet, Pastor Joe Hooper; Absent: Terris Todd, Steve Lee, Karen Lynn Todd, Sheryl McDonald; Members Excused: Erin Mapes (Chemical Bank) Guests: Chris Lussier (City of Battle Creek), Officer Troy Gilleylen (Battle Creek Police Department), Catherine LaValley (BCPS), Marilyn Robinson (BCACS), Cathy Erskine (BCACS), Benjamin Roosevelt (BCACS), Michelle VanderMeer (Humanergy) 3. Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the June 8, 2015 meeting minutes. Motion Carried. 4. Correspondence (cent/received) & Announcements: Sam Gray reported Kara Werner has been appointed Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. Erin Mapes requested to be excused. Seventh Day Adventist has had two air conditioning units stolen as well as soffits. 5. Guest Presentation: Cathy Erskine (BCACS) & Benjamin Roosevelt (BCACS) presented information regarding partnering with the Battle Creek community. Marilyn Robinson discussed her involvement and positive experience for her children as students in this Catholic school system. 6. Committee & City Staff Reports: a. Police Department – Officer Troy Gilleylen was in attendance due to Chad being on vacation. August 2-6 there is a scheduled youth leadership academy. b. Neighborhood Services – Chris Lussier discussed prior month’s concerns. If there are any concerns to utilize the sheet that so they can follow-up at the next meeting. c. Beautiful Battle Creek Award Nominations – 167 Wood Street. d. Membership – N/A. e. Community Engagement –Pastor Joe Hooper is working on “Day In The Park” on August 29, 2015 and would like to partner with NPC 2. f. Elected Officials – Vice Mayor Lynn Ward Gray reported the Town Hall Meeting is scheduled to for Keeping You Informed on AccessVision in August. g. Battle Creek Public Schools – Cathy LaValley reported Dudley School ended their school year on June 19th. July 30, Maranda’s Park Party will be held at Northwestern. There is a BCPS Board meeting scheduled on July 20th. Class of 1975 & 1980 class reunions are scheduled for weekend of July 31. 7. Old Business: N/A. 8. New Business: Michelle VanderMeer (Humanergy) discussed revisiting a strategic planning process. NPC #2 members may want to pick out a project to connect with residents. 9. Public Comments/Member Comments: Members discussed the possibility of coordinating yard signs to be placed in NPC2. Larry Martin may know th point of contact regarding the yard signs. National Night Out is scheduled on Tuesday, August 4, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. On July 23, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm there is a Bryne Criminal Grant meeting at Department of Public Works. NPC #2 members are encouraged to attend these meetings. 10. Next Meeting: Monday, August 10, 2015, 7:00 p.m. at Neighborhoods Inc. of Battle Creek 47 Washington Avenue North. 11. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 9:07 pm. NPC2 Mission: To improve the quality of life by listening and engaging residents. NPC 2 Vision: A safe, friendly, family-driven neighborhood where everyone wants to live. The City of Battle Creek will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audiotapes of printed materials being considered in the meeting upon reasonable notice to the City of Battle Creek.
