Bidwell, Battle Creek, MI 49015 May 8, 2025 CALL TO ORDER: TIME CONVENED - 7:00 pm ATTENDANCE: MEMBERS: Tim Conlogue, Cynde Foster, Gloria Mansfield ABSENT: Jessica Lamson, Elisha Mayes, Bryan Mayes, Bob Kist CITY STAFF: Megan Root (Code), Perry Hart (water), Commissioner Paige Katsarsky-Smith GUESTS: Steven Smith. Rod Auton (Calhoun County Senior Services), Bernard Gladney (Bethlehem Temple Springfield) ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA: None. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: No quorum to approve Aril 10, 2025 minutes. CITY STAFF REPORTS: Police Department: No Officer Code Report: Megan Root handed out the reports COMMISSIONER REPORT: Commissioner Katsarsky-Smith introduced herself to us as she is new. She said they held a budget workshop, still searching for the new city manager, and continuing to work on the water and drilling of new wells. SCHOOLS: None MEMBERSHIP (NEW ADDITIONS/OR DELETIONS): None BEAUTIFUL BATTLE CREEK AWARD (RESIDENTIAL AND/OR BUSINESS): None BUSINESS REPORT: New dentist on Capital SW (behind Shell gas station), new Burmese restaurant on Columbia called “Shine” NETWORKING COMMITTEE: None OLD BUSINESS TO BE FINALIZED: None NEW BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS: Cynde contacted Uproot Market & Eatery to speak at June 10, 2025 meeting, also Calhoun County Commissioner Oo. SPEAKER: Perry Hart talked to us about the continuation of the Verona Wells and water contamination. And working alongside the Health Department and the Human Welfare Department. The City will be flushing the fire hydrants (maps & phases on the City Website). Rod Auton (Manager of Calhoun County Senior Services). They are located at 315 W. Green St., Marshall, MI 49068 Phone# 269-781-0846 Rod handed out information on the senior services that are funded by the Senior Mileage and the income limits that apply to the programs (age 60 and over). He handed out details of the 2025 Calhoun County Senior Expo being held in the Kellogg Arena on May 22, 2025, from 9 am – 1 pm. This is a free event, and there is a new entrance into the event since the opening of the Double Tree Hotel and the revamping of the arena. Free rides within Calhoun Cunt provide by Community Action for this event: call 1800-994-9876. They are also forming a new Ambassadorship Program made up of connected individuals who are familiar with the people in their neighborhoods who could use assistance, and who otherwise would not be willing or able to ask for help. Senior Services will train the Ambassador. Qualifications: be a Calhoun County resident, age 60 or older, be familiar with computers and have an email address, be outgoing and willing to make friends, demonstrate an interest in helping older adults, have reliable transportation, have good verbal and written communication skills, and understand the importance of confidentiality.
