NPC 4 meeting date: 6.21.23. 7pm members: JP Wilson, Mary Conklin, Sherry Sofia, Dave Morgan, Mary Lusk, David Salerno, Chandra Youngblood guests: Craig Long, Roger Koning, Chuck and Kim Yarger, Victoria Prior to meeting JP said the Yarger's and Roger's info had been relayed to the city for membership approval. Prior to the start Victoria expressed a wish for police presence and speed bumps on Frelinghusen and Harvard to deter speeding. Chuck responded speed bumps delay emergency vehicles and damage snowplows. She referred to persistent police presence and speed bumps in Lakeview successful in slowing traffic. JP explained that it was a common complaint in his neighborhood too and invited her to stay and attend the meeting. BCPD: After the introductions officer Long handed out the May crime report. Informed us Yolonda Johnson would be in charge of the neighborhoods code compliance. He then reported on long term parked cars being moved or removed and a number of drug houses (meth) that had been condemned. Victoria expressed the opinion that other means rather than police action could be pursued to resolve crime and keep people in their homes such as having a non drug using family member become the owner. There was back and forth banter on this and other subjects. Officer Long excused himself from the argument after she stated BCPD was racist and police action was a form of harassment. Chuck countered with a third party recommendation of BCPD. JP called an end to this discussion and the meeting continued. government: Sherry reported that pre covid festivals were returning, the ballon festival and farmers market. minutes: After quorum was reached May and April minutes approved. comments: Chandra gave notice of her retiring from BCPS and moving. Mary Lusk said the Health Fair at First Presbyterian Church will be on August 26 and confirmed officer Long would be there. Chuck thanked the police. Mary Conklin found the meeting informative. JP weighed in on the lack of street sweeping and tree filling. Victoria reiterated her opinion that BCPD was racist. adjourn 8:02 next meeting: September 20, 7pm
