meeting date: 6.21.23. 7pm
members: JP Wilson, Mary Conklin, Sherry Sofia, Dave Morgan, Mary Lusk, David
Salerno, Chandra Youngblood
guests: Craig Long, Roger Koning, Chuck and Kim Yarger, Victoria
Prior to meeting JP said the Yarger's and Roger's info had been relayed to the city for
membership approval.
Prior to the start Victoria expressed a wish for police presence and speed bumps on
Frelinghusen and Harvard to deter speeding. Chuck responded speed bumps delay
emergency vehicles and damage snowplows. She referred to persistent police
presence and speed bumps in Lakeview successful in slowing traffic. JP explained that
it was a common complaint in his neighborhood too and invited her to stay and attend
the meeting.
BCPD: After the introductions officer Long handed out the May crime report. Informed
us Yolonda Johnson would be in charge of the neighborhoods code compliance. He
then reported on long term parked cars being moved or removed and a number of drug
houses (meth) that had been condemned. Victoria expressed the opinion that other
means rather than police action could be pursued to resolve crime and keep people in
their homes such as having a non drug using family member become the owner. There
was back and forth banter on this and other subjects. Officer Long excused himself
from the argument after she stated BCPD was racist and police action was a form of
harassment. Chuck countered with a third party recommendation of BCPD. JP called
an end to this discussion and the meeting continued.
government: Sherry reported that pre covid festivals were returning, the ballon festival
and farmers market.
minutes: After quorum was reached May and April minutes approved.
comments: Chandra gave notice of her retiring from BCPS and moving. Mary Lusk
said the Health Fair at First Presbyterian Church will be on August 26 and confirmed
officer Long would be there. Chuck thanked the police. Mary Conklin found the
meeting informative. JP weighed in on the lack of street sweeping and tree
filling. Victoria reiterated her opinion that BCPD was racist.
