NPC 5 MINUTES June 12, 2023 at Christ United Methodist Church 1. CALL TO ORDER: meeting called to order at 7:06pm; NOTE ON QUORUM: There were 10 members in attendance (6 members excused). if NPC 5 has 21 members, a quorum was not present. However, meeting was conducted as if it was “o cial business.” 2. ATTENDANCE: see attendance sheet (Note that Otto Olson included his email.) 3. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MINUTES: Previous minutes were approved. Moved by Paul S., second by David M. 4. CHAIR NOTES: Chair reminded members to update their email if needed. Chair recognized a Juneteenth Family Day promotion for Sat., June 17. 5. ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS TO AGENDA: Members voted to waive most of the committee reports to allow more time for the guest speaker. Moved by Pat G., second by Paul S. 6. POLICE REPORT: no police present 7. GUEST SPEAKER was Jarret Geering, Engineer for the City of BC. He discussed his job responsibilities and various City projects. He answer a list of questions generated from the membership. To reach Jarret about City matters, call the DPW o ce. 8. COMMITTEE REPORTS waived 9. NEW MEMBERSHIP AND RENEWAL: Sara S. nominated JoAnna Hacker for membership. Sara noted that “JoAnna has attended more than 3 meetings.” Pat G. seconded. Members voted to a rm her nomination. 10. BEAUTIFUL BATTLE CREEK AWARD Nomination for June: 44 Dunning Ave. - “great improvements over the past several years!” Members are encouraged to submit addresses for consideration of this award. Many thanks to Sara S. and her assistant, JoAnna H., for their e orts in lifting up beautiful homes in our neighborhood. 11. OLD BUSINESS: none 12. NEW BUSINESS: none 13. PUBLIC SERVICE COMMENTS FROM COMMISSIONERS: Commissioner Roger Ballard summarized commission business. Rep Haadsma brie y discussed the current budget process in Lansing. Rep. Haadsma noted his monthly “co ee hours” on the rst Saturday of the month. In BC area at Mr. Don’s from 9-11am, and in Albion at Sterling Books and Brew from 1-230 pm. 14. COMMENTS FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER: (1) Pastor Janet noted the Christ United Methodist Church (NPC 5 meeting space) is hosting a free Community Dinner on Fri, July 21, from 5-6:30pm. The idea is to gather neighbors together. Come and bring a friend! (2) ** a member noted a dangerously large piece of sidewalk is missing directly in front of 91 Bedford Rd. It is deep and big enough to prevent a wheel chair or walker from traversing.** (3) Kudos to the City of BC Field Services people for doing a fast, thorough pick up of the mountain of debris and tires that was cleaned out of Fell Park on Earth Day. 15.
