NORTHEAST PLANNING COUNCIL #4 (Fermont/Verona/McKinley) MEETING MINUTES September 18, 2024 First Congregational Church, 145 NE Capital Ave DRAFT Members: JP Wilson, Kim Yarger, Chuck Yarger, Mary Conklin, Mary Lusk, Roger Koning, Craig Long, David Salerno Guests: Bryan Gandy, John Kenefick, Tanya Waschak JP chaired this meeting. Request you send minutes to Bryan. bkgandy@battlecreekmi.gov June minutes approved after the introductions. BCPD: Craig handed out August crime report. Of the nine npc's ours was third on the count of crime, count of charges and traffic stops. Voiced frustration over construction at Calhoun County juvenile home causing an arrest one release one situation. Explained that the intersection cameras are being used as license plate readers and would help track crime suspects. Chuck and JP complained of loud motor cycles that police cannot safely pursue. Tanya questioned if the return of even / odd street parking was being discussed. Code: Bryan handed out compliance and inspection issues for Spring and Summer. Tall grass was the major issue. Tanya and Chuck discussed properties of concern. Government: Chuck reported on the city commission's workshop regarding the fire station and Kellogg arena proposals. Money will fund improvements necessary for fire fighter and equipment safety and help improve recruitment. Membership: Tanya was approved for membership. Mary Lusk informed us of a number of community events First Presbyterian Church is presenting. Movies, music, Zumba, tailgates for BC Central, lunch at noon Wednesdays, and Christmas party December 14. Chuck pointed out the address on the minutes leader head, 342 Capital Ave NE is for Maple Methodist Church.145 NE Capital is First Congregational church address. John argued that the cost of mortgaging for the fire station and Kellogg arena improvements involves significant interest over 25 years and that setting money aside toward capital improvements would make borrowing unnecessary.
