Bidwell St. Battle Creek, MI 49015 September 12, 2024 Minutes DRAFT CALL TO ORDER/TIME CONVENED: 7 PM ATTENDANCE: Members: Tim Conlogue, Robert Kist, Cynde Foster, Gloria Mansfield, Pastor Janet Wilson Excused: Elisha Hodge Mayes, Bryan Mayes, Tim Cole Absent: Carla Beerner, Al Berner, Cari Briggs, Jerry Dill, Penny Dill City Staff: Corporal O’Bryant of BCPD, City Commissioner/Vice Mayor Sofia Guests: Claire Fingas, John Kenefick ADDITION OR DELETIONS TO THE AGENDA: Our speaker John Hart needs to postpone coming until the November meeting. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES: The August 2024 Minutes could not be approved due to “NO QUORUM” CITY STAFF REPORTS: Police Department- Corporal O’Bryant passed out reports and went over the report. It was an active August for our NPC. We had a discussion on the homeless in our area. Code Reports: None; no officer in attendance COMMITTEE REPORTS: Commissioner Report: The Commissioner/Vice Mayor told us we have a new City Attorney, our City Manager is retiring and a search for a new one is underway; and, a change to public comment at Commission Meetings are being voted on at the next Commission Meeting. It will go to 4 minutes on the consent agenda, and resolutions, and 3 minutes at the end of the Meeting under Public Comment. Schools: Battle Creek Public Schools and Lakeview Schools: None Membership (new additions/deletions): None Beautiful Battle Creek Award (Residential and/or Business): R-558 Fairfield Ave Business Report: None Networking Committee: None OLD BUSINESS TO BE FINALIZED: Discussion on the possible neighborhood name to be placed on old signposts on Trinity Neighborhood Center property. NEW BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS: To have a representative from Summit Point as a speaker SPEAKER: Our Speaker John Hart for tonight had to cancel. PUBLIC/GUEST COMMENTS: John Kenefick spoke about the new time limits for comment at the City Commission Meetings to be voted on. And, asked if any of our members gave an opinion to Commissioner Simmons on this subject. None present had. Claire Fingas asked what to do about a raccoon being at the top of a power pole (on City property) for at least 24 hours: what department or person to call without cost to a resident. This is on Whittier Ave. (a short St. off Capital Ave SW). MEMBER COMMENTS: Gloria Mansfield mentioned how informative the radio show on Saturday mornings is.
