Council Minutes – February 13, 2012
Meeting at

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; Mason Mayo; Darlene

A moment of Silence was observed.
Previous Minutes: The minutes from January 9, 2011 were approved by a voice vote.
Correspondence: Notification of a Battle Creek City Commission meeting on 3/6/12 to
discuss how to disperse the remaining CDAC funds; Don & Rosemary Vinkmulder notified the
council of their move to Colorado.
Police Report: Officer Adam Pembrook updated the group on the reduction in police cars
patrolling Urbandale. The reduced patrols will have 2 officers per car until July.
Guest Speaker: Brenda Hunt – Battle Creek Community Foundation. The presentation was to
inform the community of the available funding of grants for the purpose of Healthy
Neighborhoods. These funds can be used to encourage communities to engage in their own
wellness. To get involved requires an orientation which assists in the preparation of a budget
proposal to access the funding. She also discussed the process for establishing funding at the
foundation for the purpose of an individual or group endowment.
Commissioner’s Report: Mary Lou Ramon dispensed the updated listing of the Urbandale
NPC membership as well as the Battle Creek City Commission resolution to add Deborah L.
Gregory as a member of the Urbandale NPC. Mayor Baldwin discussed the planning meeting
to discuss the city’s capital improvement plan as well as the use of the NSP2 funding.
School Report: Deborah L. Gregory discussed the upcoming board meeting on February 20,
2012 as well as the reduction in revenue to the district resulting from Governor Snyder’s
budget proposal
Code Report: Written report by Dennis McKinley as well as answered council questions.
Membership: Excused absence for Carl Brockman
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 114 Kellogg reported by Dale Stratton.
New Business:
Chair Robert Whitfield recommended Fred Bachman as a new member of the council;
Guest speaker for March will be Kyra Sychinga from the Battle Creek Urban League
Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 8:00 PM
