Urbandale Neighborhood Planning Council #5 Council Minutes – May 14, 2012 Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church 65 North Bedford Road Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair. Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; Sara Schmanske; Joshua Fausey; David Moore; Stan Beckwith; Joe Britvec; Barbara Beckwith; Mary Lou Ramon; Fred Bachman; Rebecca Runyon; Jason Fransisco; Mason Mayo; Darlene Mayo; J.J. Ramon; Officer Adam Pembrook. Previous Minutes: The minutes from April 9, 2012 were approved by a voice vote. Moment of Silence: A moment of silence was observed for fallen police officers. Correspondence: Neighborhoods Inc – will be running ads with updates from exerts of planning council minutes provided. Questions - Bill Phillips at 269-968-1113 extension 23 Police Report: Officer Adam Pembrook discussed that the Urbandale area does not have an assigned officer for the summer months. We will have a mix of various officers from surrounding areas. Guest Speaker: J.J. Ramon – Chairman of the Leilapalooza Committee- reviewed the plans and various features of the upcoming event to take place on July 28th at Leila Arboretum. The event begins at 11 am and is free to the public. Parking will be $5. This event raises funds for the Arboretum as well as Kingman Museum. There will be multiple musical performers as well as a performance by the Junior Theatre. Food and drink vendors will be available. Commissioner’s Report: The commission will be having a workshop in June to discuss the expiring moratorium on Marijuana operations. Springfield is currently operating. School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the fiscal year end and the ongoing construction project at the new site for the Math & Science Center. Code Report: Jason Fransisco distributed a written report and fielded questions on the weed ordinance that became active on 5/1/2012. Nine or more inches and a citizen or business will be issued a citation. If no action is taken, the city will mow and charge back the owner. If there are any questions on this issue – please call 966-3387. He spoke how his department has been reduced from 10 to 5 staff to cover the city. Membership: Excused absence Carl Brockman Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 70 Dunning as reported by Dale Stratton.
