Council Minutes – March 11, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; David Moore; Fred
Bachman; Sara Schmanske; Mary Lou Ramon; Dennis McKinley; Deborah Owens; Stan
Beckwith; Barbara Beckwith; Myrtle Evans; Susan Baldwin; Darlene Mayo; Mason Mayo;
Walt McIlroy; Karen Todd; Mark Jones; Judith Campbell; James Haadsma; Deborah Gregory
Previous Minutes: February 2013 minutes were approved by voice vote.

Police Report: Written – Crime Search Mapping Report
Guest Speaker: James Haadsma from the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners spoke to
the group about the configuration of the Calhoun County Board. Each board member covers a
different area within Calhoun County. He also spoke to the Calhoun County Road Commission
and how it has been dissolved and is now the Road Department of Calhoun County. He fielded
numerous questions on county roads as well as the scope of his responsibilities on the board.
Commissioner’s Report: Mayor Susan Baldwin and Mary Lou Ramon discussed the
upcoming meetings such as 3/18 Crime and Perception; 3/19 Ward Boundaries; and 3/20
Budget workshop. Mayor Baldwin also discussed the new companies as well as expanding
companies in the Battle Creek area. This expansion will provide several hundred new jobs to
the area.
School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the Math & Science Center progress as well as
the upcoming board meeting on March 18, 2013.
Code Report: Dennis McKinley distributed a written code report and fielded questions.
Membership: Carl Brockman & Rebecca Runyon had excused absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to McDonalds at 1695 W. Michigan as
reported by Dale Stratton.

New Business: N/A
Public Comment: The “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Access Vision was awarded to
Nate Zanotti as noted by Fred Bachman.

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 7:52 PM
