Council Minutes – April 8, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; David Moore; Fred
Bachman; Sara Schmanske; Mary Lou Ramon; Eric Morris; Stan Beckwith; Barbara

Previous Minutes: March 2013 minutes were approved by voice vote.
Correspondence: N/A
Police Report: No written report was distributed due to computer virus issues - Officer Kathy
Chrenenko fielded questions.
Guest Speaker: Battle Creek Public School Superintendant Dr. Linda Hicks presented the
facts about the millage renewal on the May 7, 2013 ballot for Battle Creek Public Schools. The
School Board President Karen Evans and Dr. Hicks fielded questions in reference to the
proposal.
Commissioner’s Report: Mary Lou Ramon discussed the city requesting a loan to cover the
quiet zone in Battle Creek. This area is the McCamly Plaza Hotel and the noise that is from the
trains moving through the area. The money is also to be used for various city improvements as
well. There is a 45 day comment period for citizens to speak on the subject.
School Report: Deborah Gregory discussed the Math & Science Center progress as well as
the upcoming board meeting on April 15, 2013.
Code Report: The new code officer Eric Morris distributed a written code report and fielded
questions by the group.
Membership: Carl Brockman & Deborah Owens had excused absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to Bent Tree Apartments 59 Laura Lane as
reported by Dale Stratton.

New Business: N/A
Public Comment: Rebecca Runyon was praised for cleanup efforts in the Urbandale area as
noted by Walt McIlroy.

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 7:52 PM
