Council Minutes – June 17, 2013
Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
65 North Bedford Road
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Nate Zanotti; David Moore; Sara Schmanske; Walt
McIlroy; Joshua Fausey; Rebecca Runyon; Stan Beckwith; Barbara Beckwith; Susan Baldwin;
Eric Morris; Mary Lou Ramon; BC Fire Department
Previous Minutes: May 2013 minutes were approved by voice vote.
Correspondence: Zoning Board of Appeals – Meeting 6/18/2013 cancelled.
Police Report: None
Guest Speaker: Battle Creek Fire Department attended the council meeting to observe.
Representatives fielded questions from the council. No fires are allowed over 3 feet without a
permit.
Commissioner’s Report: Susan Baldwin discussed the passing of the budget and the
ordinance about non-goodwill collection boxes. Bond projects include bridges in downtown
and train quiet zone. This year is the city commission election. Packets can be picked up
starting June 24th.
School Report: N/A
Code Report: Eric Morris distributed a written code report and fielded questions by the group.
Membership: Deborah Gregory, Fred Bachman, Carl Brockman and Dale Stratton had
excused absences.
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: N/A
Old Business: N/A
New Business: The council chair has a new email address: lordstrong68@comcast.net
Public Comment:
Stan Beckwith made and donated Concrete Chess Tables to Downtown Battle Creek.
The Urbandale parade is June 22nd
Leila Palooza is July 27th (40 bands are booked to perform)

Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 7:30 PM
