Meeting at Christ United Methodist Church
1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Whitfield at 7:00PM
2. Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Rebecca Runyon, Deborah Owens (Commissioner), Fred Bachman,
David Moore, Hal Longman, Kathy Antaya, Curties Robertts, Walt McIlroy, Johnny Vick, Catherine
LaValley, Freeman Thomas, Paula Scarbrough, Terry Lancaster, Beverly Case, Brian Steele, Mary Lou
Ramon, Terris Todd,
City Staff: Eric Morris, Code Enforcement, Carl Vandyke, Police.
Guests; Dr. John Bizon, Jim Haadsma, Tina Yost Daniel Yates, David Gilbert, Michelle Gregoire,
Sherry Swan, Gordon Rosberg, Joan Melekian, Christine Kosmoski, Vicki Sherman, Lori Peters, John Cash
,plus many more.
3. Chair Notes/Announcements/Correspondence; None
4. Additions/deletions to the Agenda: None
5. Previous Minutes: Approved by Voice Vote
6. Police Report: Office Vandyke reported on police activity in the area. and submitted a written report
7. Guest Speakers: All candidates on the ballot for August 2nd introduced themselves. The following
candidates spoke; Tina Yost, Circuit Court Judge, Michelle Gregorie, State Representative 62nd district-
Libertarian Party, Christine Kosmowski, Water Resources Commissioner, David Gilbert, County
Prosesutor - Incumbent, Joan Mellekian, County Clerk?Register of Deeds, Johnny Cash, Water Resources
Commissioner. Then incumbent state representative Republican Dr. John Bizon and challenger Democrat
Jim Haadsma each gave a ten minute introduction of themselves and what their positions were on many of
the issues facing the 62nd district. This was followed by a question and answer session.
There were 69 people in attendance.
8. Committee Reports
a)School Report: Catherine LaValley reported that the next school board meeting would be held at
Willard Library (3rd floor). on July 18th at 6PM.
b)Code Report: Eric Morris submitted a written report. Few issues, no questions
c.) Beautiful Battle Creek Award; none
d) Membership: Gloria Zanetti, new member
9. Old Business: Paula Scarbrough reported that the Southwest Michigan Community
Development Corporation had accepted our grant for $1,000 for teh Urbandale Fall Festival. The festival
will be held at the Urbandale Plaze on Saturday October 15th (tentative).
10. New Business: none
11. Commissioner Comments: Deborah Owens reported that situation regarding replacing speed bumps
on Morgan Ave is still being studied. A major repair of interceptor sewer at Stringham and Jackson is in
progress. This repair was brought forward do to the integrity of the concrete pipes. Gases were eroding the
pipes. Commissioner Owens reported on the increased tax millage. She did not vote for the increase.

a)Public Comments: none
b) Member Comments Kathy Antaya reported that she has fresh vegetables for sale at Leila Arboretum
every Tuesday and Thursday from Noon to 6PM. Your support is very much appreciated.
