1. Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Co-Chairman Hal Longman at 7:03PM. Pastor
Steele gave the invocation.
2. Attendance: David Moore, Sara Schmanske, Kathy Antaya, Pat Graw, Curtis Roberts, Johnny
Vick, Catherine LaValley, Paula Scarbrough, Beverly Case, Brian Steele, Mary Lou Ramon, Hal
Longman, Gloria Zanatti, Excused Absences; Robert Whitfield, Rebecca Runyon, Walt McIlroy,
Deborah Owens, Fred Bachman.
3. Chair Notes/Announcements/Correspondence; None
4. Additions/deletions to the Agenda: Agenda approved
5. Previous Minutes: Approved with spelling corrections for Curtis Roberts name
6. Police Report: Officer Vandyke reported that there were 37 foot patrols conducted in July.
and provided a written report.
7. Guest Speakers: None
8. Committee Reports (Comments limited to 3 min per topic)
School Report: Cathrine LaValley reported that the next school board meeting would be
Monday August 15 at Willard Library. The Board, Admin and Staff are attending classes
sponsored by the National Equity Project. There are still many needs to make sure all students
have all of the supply's they need. The basics such as pencils, paper, rulers etc. are needed. City
Linc is a good source for donating these supplies.
Code Report: Dennis McKinley gave a written and oral report. He reported on 3 home
improvement programs that the city is sponsoring. Some of these programs are free depending
on income. He handed out an info sheet for the NPC resource Guide.
Beautiful Battle Creek; Sara Schmanske identified 275 N. Bedford Rd. as the recipient.
9. Old Business: Planning for the Fall Festival is continuing. ULBA is on board and is discussing
paying for signage. Information flyer should be distributed next week. Festival is scheduled for
Saturday, October 15.
10. New Business: None
11. Commissioner Comments: none
12. Comments for the good of the Order Hal Longman reported that he thought that it was
inappropriate that the city continue to spend tax payer dollars on studying the speed bumps on
Morgan Ave. The speed bumps were removed without community involvement and should be
replaced. The NPC has voted unanimously that they be replaced.
Public Comments: None
Member Comments Many members thanked the BC Police for enforcing the speed limits on
West Michigan Ave.
