MINUTES
1. Chairman Robert Whitfield opened with a moment of silence and words of welcome at 7:00 p.m.
2. Attendance; Robert Whitfield, Johnny Vick, Freeman Thomas, Brian Steele, Sara Schmanske,
Curtis Roberts, Deborah Owens, David Moore, Walt McIlroy, Terry Lancaster, Patricia Graw,
Joshua Fausey, Beverly Case, Roger Ballard, Fred Bachman, Kathy Antaya. A quorum of at least
seven members was present.
Excused: Catherine LaValley
Staff: Eric Morris, Sgt Scott Eager, Officer Cory Champlin, Police Chief Blocker
Guests: Alvis Allen, John Griffin, Ollie Griffin, Kristin Blood, Josh Blood, Mary Lou Ramon

3. Chair Announcements: none
4. Additions to the Agenda Added the topic “speaker procurement for future meetings” to New
Business.
5. June minutes were approved by the members present.
6. Police Report: Police Chief Blocker spoke to attendees. Discussed fireworks ordinance, new
police station, etc. Answered questions.
7. Guest Speaker: No speaker; instead we had a round table discussion. Topics included: “silent”
fireworks; creating an Urbandale Community Center for after school activities; creating a dog park
inside Fell Park; M-37 truck traffic issues; Urbandale Fall Festival may need to be postponed
8. (A) School Report – none
(B) Code Report – Eric Morris distributed report on Code Compliance and Inspection
Issues and answered questions.
(C) Membership: no report
(D) Beautiful Battle Creek Award - Sara Schmanske reported that
99 Willard Ave. East was nominated for this month’s award.

10. New Business – Members volunteered to invite speakers for NPC meetings in these months:
