Call to Order & Welcome: Chairman Whitfield called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone present at 7:01 p.m. 2. Attendance Members Present: Brian Steele, Kathy Antaya, Chairman Robert Whitfield, David Moore, Sara Schmanske, Curtis Roberts, Walt McIlroy, Freeman Thomas, Terry Lancaster, Nancy Hoard, Wayne Hoard, Roger Ballard, Guests Present: Kristin Blood, Ron Stone, John Griffin City Staff Present: Officer Clayton Dennie, Dennis McKinley Excused: Fred Bachman, Josh Fausey, Commissioner Deb Owens, Catherine LaValley (School Board), Pat Graw, Paula Scarbrough 3. Announcements: There were no announcements. 4. Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: None to report 5. Approval of Previous Minutes: The previous two months of minutes were approved. 6. Police Report: Officer Dennie gave a police report and listed various crimes in the area. Officer Dennie mentioned that somebody was burning of playground equipment in Fell Park and have been dumping trash there. Officer Dennie also mentioned they are trying to catch a young person riding a moped/motorcycle around Morgan Avenue. 7. Guest Speaker: N/A 8. Committee Reports: School Report: Catherine LaValley told Chairman Whitfield that the school board changed their meeting time to the second meeting of the month so she will try to get a school official at our meetings. Code Report: Dennis McKinley distributed the code report. There were minimal exterior violations this past month. He also mentioned that John Hart of Battle Creek Unlimited are trying to bring their development ideas down to Urbandale as well. Beautification: 1188 W. Michigan Ave. 9. Old Business: We have been approved for the Adopt-A-Highway program. We are going to aim to pick up trash on September 23rd. There will potentially be two groups with one working in the morning and one in the afternoon. Participants will have to watch a safety video before working. Terry Lancaster has DVD copies of the video available or it is available online at the Adopt-A-Highway website. 10. New Business: Roger Ballard gave an update on next month’s candidate forum for the city commission elections. If there are specific questions you would like answered, please submit them to Chairman Whitfield or Roger Ballard. We will also have an abbreviated business meeting beforehand. Everybody approved this idea. The Adopt-A-Highway Safety Video wil be shown after the meeting. 11. Nominating Committee: N/A 12.
