Call to Order & Welcome @ 7:01 p.m.: (Invocation/Moment of Silence) 2. Attendance [Member (M) Guest (G) City Rep (C)]: (M) Robert Whitfield, Hal Longman, Kathy Antaya, Patricia Graw, Johnny Vick, Catherine LaValley, Freeman Thomas, Terry Lancaster, Kristin Blood, Nancy Hoard, Roger Ballard, John Griffin, (G) Amanda Paffhausen, Officer Joshua Partee, Jennifer Kay (BCPS), Tony McClenney (BCPS), EXCUSED: Fred Bachman, Curtis Roberts, Joshua Fausey 3. Approval of Previous Minutes (as amended): Hal Longman moved to accept the minutes, supported by Terry Lancaster; approved. 4. Chair Notes/Announcements/Correspondence: At the Record Box--Truth/Racial Healing 6 p.m., Tue., January 21. Title--Lift Our Voices, food will be served; then 8-9 p.m., drumming and dancing. 5. Additions or Deletions to the Agenda: none 6. Police Report: Officer Partee presented a written report: he noted 247 Woodlawn Avenue North was reported to Code Compliance—stripping of wires in the back yard and a fire developed. 7. Guest Speaker: Jennifer Kay and Tony McClenney, both of Battle Creek Public Schools, reported Governor Whitmer visited Battle Creek Public Schools. Tony also reported on job shadowing. High School Follies canceled their 83rd performance due to weather. On another topic, kids were running around and preventing others from viewing the basketball games. Some parents were dropping kids off at the game and not staying to supervise their children. 8. Committee Reports: (Comments limited to 3 min per topic) a. School: see (7) guest speaker. b. Code Report: no representative present. c. Food Pantry: All are encouraged to drop off dry goods any time. d. Library: Amanda P. reported A Dog Called Hope will be read for BC Reads. 9. New Membership & Renewal: Hal Longman & Paula Scarbrough will renew, Regina Kilgore will not renew her membership. 10. Beautiful Battle Creek Award/Nominations: 88 Bedford Road North 11. Old Business: Urbandale Fall Festival. Meeting will be held 1/21/2020 from noon to 1 p.m. 12. New Business: 2020 projects—highway cleanup three times a year: April and two more times. Urbandale Fall Festival with ULABA. It was reported that Brenda Hunt said that $10,000 has been made available in order to rehab signs that have service clubs placed. Urbandale parade as about $1,200 remaining on hand at Neighborhoods, Inc. Robert suggested we get together with the parade people. Maybe they would be interested in doing a bike and wagon parade at the Fall Festival. Freeman T. asked, who are the members of the parade committee. Speaker topics for 2020—contact recycling organizations; splash pad at Claude Evans Park; Humane Society; County Health Department; phone and mail fraud; in February change in the City Commission charter regarding the election of mayor. 13. Public Service Comments from Commissioners: Commissioner Griffin reported we purchased a $500,000 fire truck. Also reported reappointment of all committee members. City is looking for people to work elections. There are four elections in 2020. Also reported that 2020 census workers are needed. 14. Comments for the Good of the Order: (Comments limited to three (3) minutes per person) a. Public Comments: none b. Members Comments: Hal reported the U. S. Constitution be scholarships for schools, $3,000, Conservator minorities will be held Sat., Jan. 11 at the Cathedral in Portage. Speaker will be Pastor Chris Turdarty from Trinity Lutheran Church. 15. Next Meeting: Monday, February 10, 2020 16.
