MINUTES URBANDALE NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING COUNCIL. NPC #5 Christ United Methodist Church, 65 Bedford Road Monday, May 8, 2023 FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES and AGENDA ADDITIONS/DELETIONS CONTACT KATHY ANTAYA (CELL) 616-450-1884 or (email) antayakathy@gmail.com 1. Called to Order at 7:04 pm. A quorum was present. 2. For attendance, see additional sheet. 3. CHAIR notes: . Pastor Janet rescinded her application for membership in NPC #5 because she’s a NPC#3 member. Motion by Roger B.and second by Terry L.formally rescind Pastor Janet’s application for NPC #5. Motion passed. Kathy still looking for a couple volunteers to lead a “new Member’ drive / create a “packet” of information about NPC’s/their bene t to neighbors. Shared questions with group and announced Jarret Geering, BC city engineer, will be guest speaker for June NPC#5 meeting. 4. Approval of Agenda was motioned by David M., second by Pat G. Motion passed. 5. Approval of Previous Minutes from April 10,2023 was motioned by Johnny V., second by Paul S. Motion passed. 6. O cer Scott and O cer Rose provided a written report on Urbandale incidents (tra c stops on W. Mich., few larcenies/property crimes, foot patrols,2 CSC’s) and answered questions. O cer Rose will be our NPC#5 COPS daily (M-F) who will patrol sometimes in a plain car and has the ability to closely watch (e.g. Kellogg St. etc) O cer Rose has talked to 75 Hinman resident and has encouraged resident with several resources to lean into. This will be a 5 year assignment. O cer Rose stayed the entire meeting. 7. Guest Speaker -none. 8. Committee reports: School report by Catherine L. (School Board); Code report by Eric Morris(provided written report for Urbandale); Beautiful Battle Creek Award for 399 Presidential Avenue by Sara S. (“Nice setting, near Mason Ave.”). Food Pantry - none; Library-none. 9. Membership: According to Kathy A.comments: Sharlene VanLuven membership should be approved shortly. Jack McCauley is currently a member. These members were excused for this meeting: Fred Bachman, Curtis Roberts, Kathy Antaya, Kristin Blood, Patrica Poole- Gray 10. Old Business: items discussed: Bridge construction in the Mason Ave neighborhood; a successful Fell Park clean-up report, April 22, with 0ver 20 people collecting 20 bags of trash which was removed by city the following Monday, steamed cleaned the Fell Bldg. Roger B.submitted an article to the Shopper News detailing Fell Park cleanup 11. New Business: Since the city engineer could use more time when he speaks with NPC#5 next month, a suggestion made to reduce committee reports to give additional time for discussion/questions to the city engineer. Giving extra time to the speaker would be bene cial for all. 12. Roger Ballard, Ward 1 Commissioner provided a report Public Service Comments 13. Comments for the Good of the Order: member Jack McC. Update on a proposed county transit proposal: member Paul S.on May 6th, he/wife picked up trash along Jackson on May 6 (5 bags of garbage) Public:Pastor Janet shared a successful open community dinner (March)(35). The next free dinner will be Friday, May 19th 5:00-6:30 at Christ Methodist Church. Then every other month (July, Sept.Nov.) 14.
